Wachter's two-run double proves to be all of SNHU's offense

Freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) hit a two-run double in the third inning, but the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision to Post University on Tuesday afternoon at Penmen Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Post jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-out, two-run home run to left off the bat of Jimmy Brennan.
  • The Eagles doubled their lead in the top of the first, but the Penmen answered with a two-run double to left-center by Wachter that sliced the deficit in half at 4-2.
  • Post re-gained its four-run lead with two more in the fifth, making it 6-2.
  • The Eagles nudged their advantage to 7-2 in the sixth when they drew a bases-loaded walk.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Sophomore Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) allowed four runs on four hits over three innings, while striking out three and walking one. He was tagged with the loss to fall to 2-3.
  • Senior Griffin Gilbert (Concord, N.H.) relinquished three runs on two hits and four walks over two-and-a-third innings, while punching out a pair.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which had outscored its opponents, 71-13, over its previous four games, sees its winning streak end at five.
  • SNHU continues to lead the all-time series with Post, 13-3, but the Eagles have now won two of the last three meetings. The Penmen took two of three from the Eagles on the road back on March 16 and 17. The teams have now split four gatherings at Penmen Field.
  • Wachter has an RBI in six straight games, going 10-for-23 (.435) with a home run, 18 RBI and seven runs scored during the stretch. He leads the NE10 with 54 RBI.
  • Burgos had his seven-game RBI streak and seven-game hitting streak snapped.
  • Vargas Segura continues to pace the league in steals (39).
  • Vargas Segura extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

  • The Penmen wrap up the regular season with a three-game set at Franklin Pierce University. The series begins Friday, May 3 with a noon doubleheader.
