HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern New Hampshire struck for three in the top of the first, including an RBI single to left from Pisano.
  • Franklin Pierce scored one in the home half and tied it, 3-3, on a two-run home run in the third by Kiobel Lugo.
  • Burgos put the Penmen on top, 4-3, in the fourth with a solo home run.
  • The score stayed that way into the bottom of the seventh when Franklin Pierce capitalized on an error to score a pair of unearned runs that flipped it in front, 5-4.
  • Sophomore Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) began the ninth inning with a walk and then stole second, before back-to-back strikeouts pushed the Penmen to the brink. A pinch-hit walk to grad student Jaime Roldan (Boston, Mass.) put the tying run in scoring position for Vargas Segura, who came through with a single through the right side that tied the game. Wouters followed with an RBI base hit to right that gave SNHU a 6-5 lead.
  • DeMaro came on and fired a 1-2-3 ninth.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Risedorf (run, walk two steals) and freshman Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.) were both 1-for-3.
  • Freshman Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) finished 0-for-3, with an RBI, run, two walks and a steal.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, receiving votes in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Poll, has won eight of its last nine.
  • SNHU, which clinched the NE10 Northeast Division for the seventh straight season and the eighth time, overall, with Friday's doubleheader sweep of FPU, won the division outright with Saturday's win.
  • The Penmen had already earned an NE10 Championship first round home game Tuesday, May 7 (3:30 p,m.), but now know they will play host to Assumption University at Penmen Field. SNHU, with a win over the Greyhounds, would host NE10 Championship Weekend on Thursday-Saturday, May 9-11.
  • Southern New Hampshire now leads the all-time series with Franklin Pierce, 66-50-1, and has won 26 of the last 30 meetings with the Ravens, including 11 of 12 on the road.
  • Burgos' home run is his program-record 16th of the season and 19th of his career.
  • Wachter leads the NE10 with 56 RBI.
  • Vargas Segura continues to pace the league with 40 steals, which ties him for the eighth most in a single season in NE10 history.
  • Over his last three outings, Gitschier has thrown six-and-two-thirds innings and allowed just a single unearned run and four hits, while striking out five and walking only one.
