Senior Deanne Wilson (Buffalo, N.Y.) and sophomore Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain) combined for 51 kills to help lead the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team to a split at Assumption University's tri-match on Saturday. The Penmen were narrowly outlasted by the Greyhounds in five sets, before bouncing back for a 3-0 victory over Bloomfield College.

KEY MOMENTS – ASSUMPTION MATCH
- Southern New Hampshire trailed, 19-16, in the opening set, but Assumption ran off four of the next five points, and two of the final three, to take the 1-0 lead.
- SNHU rebounded in the second stanza, leading 22-21 when a Wilson kill sparked a 3-0 run that tied it at one.
- The Penmen were in front, 22-21, in the third, but a 4-1 rush at the end by Assumption gave it a 2-1 edge in the match.
- Assumption scored the first seven points of the fourth and led, 18-11, when SNHU responded with an 8-1 blitz to even the set at 19-all. The Penmen trailed, 24-23, but two kills each from Gilmore and Mateos made up a 4-1 run that forced a deciding fifth set.
- In the final frame, a Wilson kill gave SNHU a 9-8 edge, but Assumption notched four straight as part of a 5-1 spurt that put it in front, 13-10. Two straight, including another Wilson kill, allowed the Penmen to climb within 13-12, but back-to-back kills from the Greyhounds gave them the victory.

- Set scores were 25-21, 21-15, 25-23, 25-27, 15-12.
- Wilson posted a career-high 20 kills on .311 hitting, while recording 13 digs.
- Mateos registered 15 kills and five digs.
- Gilmore submitted a career-best 13 kills on .375 hitting.
- Cavalcanti recorded a Penmen career-high 12 kills on .333 hitting, while adding an ace, six blocks and four digs.
- Garn dished out a career-high 54 assists to go with three blocks and three digs.
- Dias collected 17 digs.
- Haas added six aces and a career-best 15 digs.
- Freshman Lailah Johnson (Senoia, Ga.) chipped in 11 digs and a pair of aces.
- Assumption outhit SNHU in the three sets it won, including .276-.251, overall.
- The Penmen held advantages in blocks (10-9) and aces (9-5).
KEY MOMENTS – BLOOMFIELD MATCH
- SNHU jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the opening set, with Wilson providing four kills and Johnson adding two aces. It was a 10-point lead at 22-12, when the Penmen notched three of the final four points to go up, 1-0, in the match.
- SNHU led by four, 21-17, late in the second stanza when a pair of aces from senior Madison Keating (Milford, N.H.) powered a 4-0 rush that made it 2-0.
- After Bloomfield scored the first two points of the third, the Penmen ripped off nine-in-a-row – with three aces from junior Ella Koelb (Auburn, N.H.), and two kills each from Mateos and sophomore Jaelyn Miles (Manchester, N.H.) – to re-establish their dominance in the match. SNHU was in front 19-13 when it scored six of the final eight to win the match.

- Set scores were 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
- Mateos led the way with 10 kills on .364 hitting.
- Wilson added six kills on nine swings for a .556 hitting mark.
- Junior Caelan Cook (Indian Harbour Beach, Fla.) posted five kills and six digs.
- Cavalcanti tallied four kills, four blocks, two digs and an ace.
- Miles also recorded four kills.
- Koelb egistered 16 assists, three aces, six digs and a pair of blocks.
- Garn notched 13 assists and four digs.
- Dias collected nine digs.
- Freshman Ariana Davila (Austin, Texas) contributed three kills.
- Keating chipped in a pair of aces in her first action with the Penmen.
- Johnson also added a pair of aces.
- SNHU outhit Bloomfield in all three sets, including .297- -.025, overall.
- The Penmen also owned margins in both aces (12-4) and blocks (6-3).
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has won three of its last four.
- SNHU still leads the all-time series with Assumption, 23-17, and has won 12 of the last 15 meetings. The Greyhounds, which have now captured three of the last eight matches with the Penmen, snap a three-match losing skid against SNHU and defeat it for the first time since Sept. 11, 2021 (3-1).
- The Penmen lead the all-time series with Bloomfield, 3-0, with all three matches occurring on a neutral floor..

- The Penmen return to action for three matches at American International College's International Volleyball Hall of Fame East Region Clash on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28. SNHU plays AIC (3 p.m.) and the University of Bridgeport (5:30 p.m.) on Friday, before wrapping it up against Saint Michael's College on Saturday (4 p.m.)
- SNHU is back home Friday, Oct. 4 (6 p.m.) when it plays host to Bentley University at the Field House.
