Penmen Roll To Season-Opening Win Over Molloy

Five SNHU Men's Soccer Players Tally In 5-0 Win

Five different players tallied goals as the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team opened the 2024 season with a 5-0 win over Molloy University on Thursday at Mark A. Ouellette Stadium. 

STANDOUT PERFORMERS KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Preus took a return pass from Fuentes for his first career goal.
  • SNHU took a 2-0 lead on a goal by Fuentes at 54:52 off a nice setup from the far side by sophomore Martin Zapata (Pamplona, Spain).
  • Sophomore Gabriel Castro (Leon, Spain) scored off a free kick at 61:54 to put the Penmen up 3-0.
  • Junior Philipp Herrmann (Bruckmuehl, Germany) made it 4-0 at 64:11 with his first goal of the season.
  • Graduate student Malvin Gblah (Zwedru, Liberia), making his first start for the Penmen, tallied at 75:42.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • SNHU had an 18-2 shot advantage including 9-1 on goal.
  • The Penmen had five corners and the Lions had two.
  • There were 19 fouls whistled on the Penmen to 17 for Molloy.
NOTES
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with the Lions 5-0.  The teams first met in 2010.    
  • Herrmann's score was his ninth career goal. 
  • Neal recorded his 10th career shutout in 31 starts for SNHU.
  • SNHU is now 133-37-24 (.747) over its last 194 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will play at Post University in Waterbury, Conn. on Wednesday (9/11) at 1:30 p.m.
  • The next home game for SNHU will be on Saturday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. against Southern Connecticut State University in the first Northeast-10 Conference game of the season.  It will be Candia Youth Soccer Day at Penmen Stadium.
