Sophomore Angela Mateos (Seville, Spain) notched a career-best nine kills, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's volleyball team dropped another four-set decision to Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon at the Stan Spirou Field House as part of the SNHU/Saint Anselm Volleyball Opener.

KEY MOMENTS
- Southern New Hampshire led, 23-21, in the opening set, when a pair of Franklin Pierce errors gave SNHU a 1-0 lead in the match.
- The Penmen were within 22-21 in the second stanza when the Ravens reeled off three straight points to even the match.
- SNHU trailed, 22-17, in the third when it ripped off five straight points – powered by a trio of Cavalcanti aces – as part of a 7-1 blitz that put it on top, 24-23. FPU would respond with three straight points to take the crucial frame and go up, 2-1.
- The Penmen were up, 14-12, in the fourth, but Franklin Pierce notched six straight points and used a 12-3 rush to push SNHU to the brink at 24-17. A pair of Mateos kills made up a 4-0 run that pulled the hosts within three, but a Raven kill ended it.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Set scores were 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-21.
- Sophomore Elsa Gilmore (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) registered six kills on .313 hitting.
- Sophomore Daya Jean-Baptiste (Miami, Fla.) posted four kills and a pair of blocks.
- Freshman Addie Garn (Gilbert, Ariz.) added nine digs and a pair of aces.
- Junior Laura Haas (Londonderry, N.H.) collected six digs.
- FPU outhit SNHU in the final three sets, as well as .220-.126, overall.
- The Penmen doubled up the Ravens in aces, 14-7, while Franklin Pierce held a 13-3 margin in blocks.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire begins the season 0-2 for the first time since 2018.
- SNHU leads the all-time series, 30-29, with the teams splitting the most recent 12 meetings. The Penmen had won three straight at home. The last time the Ravens had come into the Field House and left with a win was Sept. 20, 2016 (3-0).

- The Penmen finish off the SNHU/Saint Anselm Volleyball Opener on Saturday (Sept. 7) at 2 p.m. when they play host to Molloy University at the Field House. Molloy and Franklin Pierce will play a neutral-site match at 10 a.m.
