Berke Shuts Out Assumption 2-0 To Start Hockey Weekend

Bryan McLachlan's First Career Goal is the Game-Winner for SNHU

Southern New Hampshire University Ice Hockey opened the weekend with a 2-0 win over NE10-leading Assumption on Friday night.  Sophomore goalie Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) recorded the shutout and sophomore Bryan McLachlan (San Pedro, Calif.) tallied the game-winner, his first career goal.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Berke - 32 saves
  • McLachlan - first career goal, game-winner
  • Junior Tyler Murray (Barre, Vt.) - empty net goal
 KEY MOMENTS
  • The teams battled through a scoreless first period with the Greyhounds hold a 12-7 edge on shots on goal.
  • SNHU took a 1-0 lead at 17:26 of the second period with a man advantage.  McLachlan scored the goal on a slap shot after receiving a pass from behind the night by sophomore Anthony Marchant (Norwood, Mass.).  Sophomore Coleman Nee (Arlington, Mass.) also earned an assist on the play.
  • Assumption sophomore net minder Callum Welch kept the Penmen off the board through a three-minute power-play after a major penalty late in the game.
  • The Penmen would hold the 1-0 lead until the final seconds when Murray converted with the empty net.  Senior Connor Ball (Webster, N.Y.) earned the assist on the goal.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Berke recorded his fourth shutout of the season and third in NE10 play.
  • Welch made 31 saves for the Greyhounds.
  • SNHU went 1-for-3 on the power-play and Assumption was 0-for-4.
NOTES
  • SNHU has converted of 14 of 67 power play opportunities (20.9%) while allowing just 6 in 55 chances (10.9%) this season.
  • The Penmen are 43-44-5 all-time against the Greyhounds, snapping  a four-game losing streak to Assumption.
  • With a win on Friday night Saint Anselm takes over the NE10 lead with SNHU one point behind Assumption for second place.
