Women's Soccer Rallies Late to Hand #11 Mercy First Loss of Season, 2-1

Penmen tie it in the 81st minute, before winning it in the 87th

When and Where: October 15, 2025 – Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. (Mercy Field)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 2, #11 Mercy University 1
Records: SNHU 3-5-2, Mercy 10-1-1

Senior Georgia Greene (Clifton Park, N.Y.) set up the equalizer in the 81st minute and then buried the game winner in the 87th, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team shocked 11th-ranked Mercy University, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Mercy Field to tag the Mavericks with their first loss of the season.

KEY MOMENT
  • Trailing, 1-0, SNHU tied it with 9:25 remaining. A corner service from the left sailed into the middle of the box, where Greene headed the ball toward the right post. A Mercy defender stopped the ball from going in, but the goalkeeper had also dove for it, leaving the net mostly vacant for junior Avary Hall (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) to volley the ball into the back of the net.
  • The Penmen moved in front with just 3:52 on the clock when a shot from the top of the box by senior Carly Schofield (Plymouth, Mass.) was stopped, but the goalkeeper could not control the rebound and Greene was able to clean up the mess in front, punching the ball in.
NOTES
  • Mercy, ranked 11th in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Coaches Poll, was unbeaten in its first 11 matches to begin the year and had won six-in-a-row.
  • The Penmen also snapped Mercy's 10-match home unbeaten streak (9-0-1). The Mavericks entered the day 61-6-9 (.862) at home since the beginning of the 2017 season, including 31-2-5 (.882) since the start of 2022.
  • SNHU improves to 1-3-1 this season against nationally-ranked opponents after losing in its first three attempts.

  • SNHU now leads the all-time series with Mercy, 5-3-2, and is unbeaten in six of the last seven (4-1-2) meetings, including three straight wins. The last Mercy victory in the series came Nov. 18, 2021 in a neutral-site tilt (1-0). The Penmen also improve to 2-1-1 on the road against the Mavericks and have not lost in Dobbs Ferry to Mercy since Nov. 12, 2017.

  • Greene's strike is also her first of the season and the ninth of her Penmen career.
