The Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team dropped its Northeast 10 opener on Friday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Franklin Pierce University at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Freshman
Jeremy LaCroix (Marlborough, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal for the Penmen late in the third period, assisted by
Adam Boucher (Uniontown, Pa.) and
Josh Russell (Stoney Creek, Ontario).
KEY MOMENT
After the Ravens built a 2-0 lead in the first period, LaCroix put SNHU on the board with 5:19 remaining in regulation, taking a feed from Boucher and Russell before snapping home a shot from the slot to cut the deficit in half. Franklin Pierce sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute.
NOTES
- LaCroix's goal marked the first of his SNHU career.
- Boucher and Russell each recorded their first assists of the season.
- Junior goaltender Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) made 14 saves.
- SNHU outshot Franklin Pierce 29–17 and won 63 percent (42–24) of faceoffs, led by freshman Kenny Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) at 80 percent.
- Franklin Pierce finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while SNHU went 0-for-3.
- The loss snapped SNHU's seven-game unbeaten streak against the Ravens. The Penmen lead the all-time series 42-19-8.
