Dillon Phillips (Raleigh, N.C.) scored his first goal of the season, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to Franklin Pierce University on Saturday night in Northeast 10 Conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
KEY MOMENT
After a scoreless first period, Franklin Pierce struck three times in the second — including two power-play goals — to take control. Phillips put the Penmen on the board 5:40 into the third, finishing passes from freshman Aidan Rufa (Massena, N.Y.) and senior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Ravens added an empty-netter in the final minute to close out the win.
NOTES
- Phillips' goal was the second of his career.
- Rufa scored his first collegiate point and it was the second assist for Lynch and 53rd of his career.
- Junior goaltender Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) made 23 saves before freshman Trent Boryszczuk (Novi, Mich.) stopped four in relief.
- SNHU outshot Franklin Pierce 36–32 and won 57 percent (42–31) of faceoffs.
- The Ravens went 2-for-6 on the power play, while SNHU was 0-for-3.
- Senior Austin Hirschberger (Harwich, Mass.) blocked a team-high three shots.
- The Penmen lead the all-time series 42-20-8.
