Senior forward Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) scored two goals and added an assist, and freshman Aidan Rufa (Massena, N.Y.) also added a pair of goals as Southern New Hampshire ice hockey reached the break with a 6-3 win over Roger Williams University Wednesday night in Fall River, Mass.
KEY MOMENT
After entering the third period tied 2–2, the Penmen seized control with a pair of quick goals by Pomposelli. The first came at 2:43 from freshman Kenny Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) and sophomore Adam Boucher (Uniontown, Pa.). Pomposelli added a power-play goal at 6:32, and Rufa's second goal of the game, also on a power-play, extended the margin to 5-2.
NOTES
- Freshman goaltender Trent Boryszczuk (Novi, Mich.) earned the win in his first collegiate start, making 26 saves. He also recorded an assist on Pomposelli's second goal.
- Senior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) tied the game late in the first period with his third goal of the season, converting a break-away from Pomposelli as SNHU was finishing a penalty kill.
- Rufa's first goal, his first career goal, came in a man-up situation at 15:34 of the second period, and tied the game at 2-2 after the Hawks had moved in front for a second time.
- Freshman Zach Vickerman (Queensville, Ontario) notched the first goal of his career, an empty netter, late in the third period off a pass from freshman Jory Veenstra (Kansas City, Mo.)
- The Penmen scored six goals in a game for the first time since 1/20/24 against Post University, a 6-1 win.
- SNHU and Roger Williams met for the eighth time, but the first since 2/20/1980. SNHU leads all-time 7-1, with the only coming in the first meeting in 1977.
UP NEXT
- After the holiday break, the Penmen return to the ice at the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational at the Warrior Ice Arena. SNHU will play Connecticut College at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday 1/3. Host Nichols and SUNY Potsdam are also competing in the two-day event.
- The next home game is Friday, January 9 (7:40 p.m.). The final non-conference game of the season will pit the Penmen against Rivier University.
