Watson Scores Twice, but SNHU Falls to Connecticut College at Boston Landing Invitational

Ice Hockey Will Play SUNY Potsdam Sunday at Warrior Ice Arena

Senior forward Kurt Watson (London, Ont.) scored twice, but Southern New Hampshire University ice hockey dropped a 6–4 decision to Connecticut College on Saturday night at the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational.   The Penmen will meet SUNY Potsdam in Sunday's consolation game at 5:40 p.m.

KEY MOMENT

Watson's second goal of the game rallied SNHU into a 3-3 tie at 8:23 of the second period, but the Camels responded with three goals, two on the power-play, to take a 6-3 lead.

NOTES
  • Watson led the Penmen offensively, netting two goals to account for half of SNHU's scoring on the night.   His six goals lead the Penmen this season.
  • With SNHU down 3-1, freshman Gabe Fisher (Granger, Ind.) found the net off a perfect feed from sophomore Dillon Phillips (Raleigh, N.C.).
  • Watson, who had tied the game at 1-1 in the first period, scored just 20 seconds after the Fisher goal to make it 3-3.
  • The other goal for the Penmen came with 3:25 to play on an unassisted goal by sophomore Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).
  • Senior Jim Minnig (Auburn, Pa.) and senior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ont.) each had two assists.
  • SNHU generated 41 shots on goal, including 18 in the third period.
  • The Penmen were held scoreless on the power play (0-3), while Connecticut College converted twice with the man advantage in the second period (2-4).
  • Ryan McKenna had a goal and two assists for Connecticut College.
  • This was the second time in the past three seasons SNHU has competed in the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational.
  • It was the fifth all-time meeting with the Camels and the first since 2004.  Connecticut College, which plays in the NESCAC, leads the Penmen 3-2 in the all-time series.
     
UP NEXT
  • SNHU will meet SUNY Potsdam on Sunday in the consolation game at 5:40 p.m.   The Bears fell 3-1 to host Nichols University in the first game on Saturday. 
  • The next home game is Friday, January 9 (7:40 p.m.).  The final non-conference game of the season will pit the Penmen against Rivier University.
