Men's Basketball Rides Hot First Half to 74-69 Win Over Bridgeport

Wallace and Nwachukwu lead a balanced attack as Penmen improve to 3-1 at home

Sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) poured in a game-high 22 points, and senior Ugo Nwachukwu (Imo State, Nigeria) added 18, as the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team rode a red-hot first half to a 74-69 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport on Tuesday night at the Stan Spirou Field House.
KEY MOMENTS
  • SNHU erupted for 49 first-half points, shooting 18-for-35 from the floor and 9-for-16 from three to build a double-digit cushion before halftime. Wallace fueled the surge with 17 points before the break, including a trio of early triples that pushed the Penmen ahead. Nwachukwu added 11 first-half points, including a pair of threes, and junior Levi Lawal (Laurel, Md.) provided a spark off the bench with nine points before intermission.
  • Bridgeport made a late push, trimming the deficit to five in the closing minutes, but the Penmen hit enough free throws (17-of-21 in the second half) to secure the victory.
NOTES
  • Wallace shot 7-for-16 from the field and 5-for-10 at the line, adding six rebounds and two assists.
  • Nwachukwu recorded 18 points (6-11 FG, 2-5 3-FG, 4-4 FT) and nine rebounds, along with two steals.
  • Lawal contributed nine points (4-7 FG) and five rebounds in 18 minutes.
  • SNHU made nine threes in the opening half and 22 field goals overall for the game.
  • The Penmen committed only 10 turnovers and converted 13 points off UB mistakes.
  • SNHU held Bridgeport to 32 second-half points and improved to 3-1 at home this season.
