Homers Lift Felician Past SNHU Baseball 6-4 in Myrtle Beach

Jancarlos Colon, Frankie DeMaro combine for five of eight hits Friday

Senior Jancarlos Colon (Santa Isabel, P.R.) had three hits and junior Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) had two hits, each driving in a run, but #10 SNHU Baseball fell 6-4 to Felician University on Friday at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colon started the bottom of the first inning with a double and the Penmen loaded the bases on consecutive hit-batters - but Felician's Max Weber struck out Lavigne to keep the game scoreless.
  • Felician took the lead in the top of the second inning.  An RBI single by Chris Corchado and a three-run homer by Haiden Walters made it 4-0.
  • The Penmen scored in the bottom of the second inning to make it 4-1.  With two outs, sophomore Jacob Albert (Pelham, N.H.) singled and moved to third on a stolen base and error.  Colon knocked in the run with a infield single.
  • SNHU drew closer in the bottom of the third inning with RBI singles by Marshall and DeMaro.
  • The Penmen tied the contest at 4-4 in the sixth inning.  Sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) drew a hit-by-pitch, graduate student Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) reached on an error and Marshall walked.  Lavigne was hit by a pitch to drive in the tying run.  
  • The Golden Falcons moved back in front when pinch-hitter Neisser Sanchez homered to the right field corner with one out in the eighth, and Felician added another run on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Scrivanic.
  • Winning pitcher Johnny Gilligan worked 3.2 innings of hitless relief to earn his first win, and Felician's first win of 2025.
INSIDE THE BOX
  • The Penmen only had one extra base hit in the game - Colon led off the game with a double.  SNHU's other seven hits were singles.
  • SNHU drew five walks and six hit-by-pitches.  The Penmen left 13 men on base.  SNHU also hit into three double plays.
  • The Golden Falcons had seven hits - three for extra-bases including the two homers.  They left eight on base.
  • Sophomore Zach Brassill (No. Hampton, N.H.) worked 5.2 IP in his first start, allowing four runs on five hits.  He walked three and struck out four.
  • Sophomore Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) retired the first five batters he faced before allowing the go-ahead homer by Sanchez.  He falls to 0-1 with the loss.
  • Senior Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) made his SNHU debut with a scoreless ninth inning.
NOTES
  • The Penmen lead the all-time series with Felician 23-6 although the Golden Falcons have won two of the last three meetings, all in Myrtle Beach.
  • SNHU is ranked 10th in the nation in the NCBWA poll released on February 19.  
  • The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach is hosting teams from the NCAA Division II East Region over four days (Feb. 20-Feb. 23) including several from the Northeast-10 Conference.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen have a doubleheader scheduled with the College of Staten Island at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Ripken Experience (Griffith Field).  The first game is scheduled for nine innings and the second game will be played as a seven inning affair.
