Adelphi Jumps #9 Baseball for 6-1 Victory

Panthers use pair of three-run frames to score win

When and Where: March 1, 2025 – Hartford, Conn. (Murren Family Field)
Score:  Adelphi University 6, #9 Southern New Hampshire University 1
Records: SNHU 4-2, AU 3-3

Adelphi University scored three times in the top of the first inning and three more times in the sixth, as it cruised to a 6-1 victory over the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team on Saturday at Trinity College's Murren Family Field at DiBenedetto Stadium.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adelphi wasted no time getting on the board against junior Austin Trumpour (Jensen Beach, Fla.), scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run to left off the bat of Joe Pellegrino. After a strike-three wild pitch extended the inning, a Jack Wishner run-scoring single made it 3-0.
  • From there, Trumpour settled down, holding Adelphi scoreless over the next four innings to keep the Penmen within striking distance.
  • Unfortunately, SNHU did not get any offense rolling before the Panthers struck for three more in the sixth against the Penmen bullpen on a two-out, bases-loaded error on a ground ball that would have ended the inning.
  • SNHU broke through in the bottom of the sixth with an unearned run, as DeMaro delivered a two-out, bases-loaded, infield single, but the Penmen would leave them full.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Juniors Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) both finished 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
  • Trumpour (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits over five innings, while striking out six and walking a batter.
  • Freshman Angel Baez (Leominster, Mass.) was charged with three runs – all unearned – on three walks, while punching out five, over four innings of work.
  • SNHU struck out 14 times in the game, the most since it fanned 14 times against Post University on Feb. 17, 2023.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked ninth in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Coaches Poll, as well as sixth in the D2 Baseball Top 25 Rankings, has its three-game winning streak halted.
  • SNHU leads the all-time series, 15-12. The teams have alternated wins over the last five meetings and have split the last eight, though Adelphi has now won four of six.
  • Through two starts this season, Trumpour is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA, allowing three runs on seven hits over 11 innings, while posting a 15/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen will visit their home away from home for spring break, playing five games over three days at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. SNHU opens up with a noon doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, March 7.
