HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Penmen broke through in the third inning. Albert walked and senior Jancarlos Colon (Santa Isabel, P.R.) was hit-by-pitch. After a double steal, Burgos ripped a two-run single.
- A single by sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) and a fly out moved Burgos to third. He scored on a failed pickoff attempt to make it 3-0.
- Valera started the fourth with a single and scored as junior Chris Leone (Newton, N.J.) reached on an error.
- Albert followed with a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead.
- Valera drove in a run with a double in the fifth inning and Albert walked with the bases loaded in the ninth for the final two runs for SNHU.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- All nine Penmen reached base by hit or walk. Junior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) walked three times, scoring one run.
- The Penmen had 8 hits and drew nine walks.
- All seven Eagle hits were singles.
- DeMaro, Lapham, and Varney retired the leadoff hitter in each of the nine innings.
- DeMaro has made three starts and has allowed four earned runs (1.89 ERA).
- Lapham pitched for the first time since joining the SNHU program.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire is receiving votes this week in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and ranks 21st in the D2 Baseball Top 25 Rankings.
- The Penmen improve to 14-3 all-time against Post. The teams split four games in 2024.
- SNHU did not make an error on Wednesday, and have made eight errors this season. SNHU opponents have made 30.
- SNHU recorded the second shutout of the season and the first since the season opener against Queens (N.Y.).
- Post saw its five-game win streak snapped after starting the season with eight consecutive losses.
