KEY MOMENTS
- Burgos, the second hitter up in the top of the first inning, homered for a 1-0 lead.
- Giallongo hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning to extend the lead to 4-0.
- Valera hit his grand slam in the top of the third inning for an 8-0 lead. Sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.) drew walks ahead of a single by Risedorf to load the bases and Valera homered.
- Risedorf drove home Colon, who had singled, with an RBI base knock in the top of the fourth.
- An RBI double by junior Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) and a run producing single by Giallongo gave the Penmen an 11-0 lead in the fifth.
- The other Penmen run scored in the top of the seventh when Marshall reached on an error, plating DeMaro.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Penmen had 11 hits for the game while allowing six to the Greyhounds.
- Burgos hit his second home run of the season, and the first since February 23 against STAC. His 24 career homers are second-most in program history.
- Valera hit his first homer of the season and second of his career. Giallongo's homer was the first of his career.
- The 16 strikeouts recorded by the Penmen were a season-high - and the three hits allowed matched a season low.
NOTES
- The Penmen dropped out of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 rankings last week, and are receiving votes for the ranking.
- Trumpour improves to 14-3 in 32 games (24 starts) for the Penmen. The 11 strikeouts were one shy of his career-best of 12 set last year against Assumption.
- Lapham earned his first career save with three innings of relief, striking out five.
- Baseball leads the all-time series with the Greyhounds 53-26-2 and the Penmen have won three of the last four.
UP NEXT
- SNHU and Assumption will look to play the second game of the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. A doubleheader is scheduled in Worcester on Sunday at Noon.
- SNHU will return home next Wednesday (April 2) to play Saint Anselm in the third game of the season series against the Hawks. This will start a stretch of ten consecutive home games at Penmen Field.
