Junior Chris Leone (Newton, N.J.), sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.) all launched home runs and combined to drive in 15, as the ninth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team split a doubleheader with Mansfield University on Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. SNHU recorded a 24-3 win in game one, before Mansfield rallied for a 14-13 win in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Southern New Hampshire moved out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by RBI singles from Wachter, Marshall, Valera and DeMaro.
  • SNHU really broke it open with a seven-run second. A two-run triple from Marshall started it, before run-scoring singles from Risedorf and DeMaro extended the advantage to nine. Leone capped the scoring in the inning with a three-run homer that made it 12-0.
  • The Penmen piled on eight more in the third, underscored by a two-run double off the bat of Colon and back-to-back home runs from Wachter and Marshall. SNHU exited the frame with a 20-0 lead and cruised from there.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
  • Marshall went 4-for-6 with three runs scored, four RBI, a triple and a home run.
  • Wachter was 4-for-7 with a three runs scored, four RBI, a double and a home run.
  • Leone finished 3-for-4 with two runs, four RBI and a home run.
  • Graduate student Luca Giallongo (Mt. Shasta, Calif.; 2 RBI, walk) and DeMaro (two runs, two RBI, walk) were both 2-for-2.
  • Risedorf went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
  • Colon was 2-for-7 with three runs scored, two RBI, a walk and two doubles.
  • Freshman Nolan Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) went 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.
  • Burgos was 1-for-5 with two runs, a pair of walks and a double.
  • Junior Connor Jensen (Shelton, Conn.) fired a perfect eighth.
  • Freshman Kaleb Fiscus (Huntington Beach, Calif.) allowed one run on two hits and a pair of walks, while striking out one, in an inning of work.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • Southern New Hampshire picked up where it left off in game one, scoring nine times in the bottom of the first. RBI doubles from Wachter and junior Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.), as well as a two-run double from Burgos, led the way.
  • Mansfield scored a pair in the third and five more in the fifth to pull within three, before a three-run fifth – with a two-run single from Marshall and an RBI base hit by Risedorf – widened the Penmen lead to 13-7.
  • Mansfield would score seven times in the seventh, including a go-ahead three-run homer, to jump in front, 14-13.
  • Wachter led off the bottom of the frame with a triple to right, but was cut down at home on a grounder to third.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
  • Wachter went 2-for-3 with a run, RBI, two walks, a double and a triple.
  • Burgos (two runs, three RBI, walk, double), Colon (three runs, RBI, walk, double) and Risedorf (run, RBI) all went 2-for-4.
  • Sophomore Jacob Albert (Pelham, N.H.) was 1-for-3 with two runs and a walk.
  • Valera (run, RBI) and Lavigne (run, RBI, double) were both 1-for-4.
  • Risedorf started and relinquished five runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out five and walking a batter.
  • Freshman Angel Baez (Leominster, Mass.) gave up two runs on two hits and two walks over a third of an inning.
  • Graduate student Cam Varney (Manchester, N.H.) tossed a pair of innings, allowing four runs on four hits.
  • Senior Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) was charged with three runs on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked ninth in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Coaches Poll, as well as 11th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and 13th in the D2 Baseball Top 25 Rankings, has won six of its last eight games.
  • SNHU moves to 3-2 all-time against Mansfield, as the teams met for the first time since a March 12, 2004 doubleheader.
  • Leone's home run is his second of the season and third of his collegiate career.
  • Wachter's team-best third home run of the year is the 12th of his career.
  • Marshall's long-ball is his second of his rookie campaign.
  • SNHU is outscoring its opponents, 88-36, this season.
  • Wachter and Colon have now hit safely in eight of 10 games this season.
