HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • Southern Connecticut went ahead, 1-0, in the second when Patrick Dillon hit a ball to deep left that junior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) made a play on, but the ball came loose as he crashed into the fence, resulting in a triple. Dillon scored when the next batter grounded out to short.
  • SCSU added to its lead with three runs in the seventh, taking advantage of a strike-three wild pitch and an error to plate a pair of unearned runs. It was a two-run single by Izaiah Walker that was the big blow.
  • Southern New Hampshire answered with its own three-run seventh, as Valera hit a three-run home run over the wall in left to pull the Penmen within 4-3.
  • SNHU tied it in the bottom of the ninth when Burgos drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) and scored on Valera's one-out single up the middle. The Penmen would strand the winning run in scoring position.
  • Marshall ended it with one swing in the 12th, hitting a two-out, two-run, opposite-field home run to right.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME ONE
  • Valera finished 3-for-4 with four RBI, a run scored and a home run.
  • Marshall (two RBI, run, HR, 2B) and Colon were both 2-for-6.
  • Burgos went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk.
  • Lavigne was 0-for-2, but walked twice and scored a run.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME TWO
  • Southern Connecticut made a bid to draw first blood in the top of the first, as Jack Drewry hit what looked to be a two-run homer to right, but junior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) ran the ball down, leaped at the wall and pulled it back to steal the home run.
  • Southern New Hampshire made good on its bid in the home half of the first, with sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) crushing a two-run shot to center.
  • SNHU nudged the lead to 3-0 in the second when Burgos led off the frame with a solo blast down the left field line.
  • The Penmen made it 4-0 in the third on an RBI single to center by Marshall.
  • The Owls capitalized on a pair of wild pitches in the sixth to score a pair of runs and slice their deficit in half.
  • SNHU added insurance in the bottom of the inning when Pisano homered down the left field line to make it 5-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME TWO
  • Burgos went 1-for-2 with an RBI, run, home run, walk and a steal.
  • Wachter (two RBI, run, home run), Marshall (RBI), Colon (run, steal), Pisano (RBI, run, home run) and sophomore Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.; double) were all 1-for-3.
  • Risedorf finished 0-for-2, but walked and scored a run.
