Women's Lax Punches Postseason Ticket with Monster Second Half in Win at Saint Michael's

Penmen qualify for NE10 Championship for fourth consecutive season

Graduate Student Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.) registered a game-high eight points and senior Rachel McLaughlin (Woburn, Mass.) scored five times, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's lacrosse team scored 13 unanswered goals in the second half to stun Saint Michael's College with a 17-11 victory that punched their ticket to the NE10 Championship on Tuesday in the regular-season finale at Duffy Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Saint Michael's led, 4-2, after the opening quarter and then scored the final four goals of the second stanza to bring a 10-4 advantage to the break.
  • Southern New Hampshire came out for the second half on fire, scoring 13 straight, including 10-in-a-row in the third quarter to put the Penmen up, 14-10, going to the final frame. Hadden registered two goals and three assists during the stretch in the third, while Redding notched two goals and a pair of helpers.
  • SNHU added three more to increase the lead to 17-10 with 4:01 on the clock.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE 
  • Freshman Corrina Moulton (Barre, Vt.) made three saves in the opening half. Sophomore Nicole Mirra (Cicero, N.Y.) stopped two of three shots in the second half.
  • Saint Michael's 'keeper Maddie Nutter made 10 saves in the first 58:41 of action. Laura Dickerson did not see a shot in the final 1:19.
  • Sophomore Mazie Burt (Waterford, Vt.) scored a pair of goals
  • Sophomore Camdyn Swain (No. Falmouth, Mass.) scored a goal and caused a pair of turnovers.
  • SNHU outshot Saint Michael's, 40-21, including 27-6 after halftime.
  • The Penmen held a 26-25 edge in ground balls, as well as a 19-13 advantage in draw controls, including 13-3 in the second half.
  • SNHU went 15-for-18 on its clears, while SMC was 15-for-23, including 4-for-10 in the fourth quarter.
  • The Penmen were 2-for-3 on their free-position opportunities, while the Purple Knights went 1-for-3.
  • SMC had 24 of the game's 45 turnovers.
  • SNHU won nine of the game's final 10 draw controls, including eight-in-a-row from 5:26 remaining in the third quarter until 4:01 left in the fourth – a span of 16:24 of game time.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire wins two of its final three games of the regular-season to advance to the NE10 Championship for a fourth consecutive season. The Penmen are locked in as the No. 8 see and will travel to the top seed for a quarterfinal matchup Saturday (April 26). Pace University would be the No. 1 seed with a win over Saint Anselm College on Wednesday night, while a Saint Anselm win would make Adelphi University the top seed.
  • SNHU improves to 19-3 all-time against Saint Michael's and extends its winning streak in the series to 10 games. The Penmen have also won five straight in Colchester. The last win in the series for the Purple Knights was at home March 21, 2015 (12-10).
  • Hadden now has 160 goals, 103 assists and 260 points for her career, including 106 goals, 75 assists and 181 points during her two years in a Penmen uniform.
  • Hadden's 92 points this season move her past Kristin Wilder (85; 2016) and her 2024 season (89) and into second place on SNHU's single-season list. She is also second in assists (45) – just one shy of Jennifer Parro's 2007 mark.

  • The Penmen wrap up the regular season Tuesday (April 22) at 3 p.m. when they take on Saint Michael's College.
