No. 3 Seed Still Up in Air After Men's Tennis Loses at Saint Michael's, 5-2

Penmen will need Adelphi to defeat Assumption on Sunday to claim 3-seed

When and Where: April 26, 2025 – Colchester, Vt. (Tarrant Recreation Center)
Score: Saint Michael's College 5, Southern New Hampshire University 2
Records: SNHU 6-12 (5-5 NE10), SMC 6-10 (4-6 NE10)

Sophomore Carlos Molero (Barcelona, Spain) won both of his matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 5-2 loss to Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon inside the Tarrant Recreation Center.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • No. 3 singles: Molero def. Julius an den Broek, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5
  • No. 1 doubles: Molero/senior Cade Nadeau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) def. Tristian Du Plessis/Sergio Barroso, 6-2
  • No. 2 doubles: junior Phillipp Roeder (Aystetten, Germany)/sophomore Albert Modol (Lleida, Spain) def. Garrett Brooker/Jackson Moser, 6-4
NOTES
  • Modol, who was slated to play at No. 3 singles, was injured during doubles play and left the match, forcing everyone behind him to move up a flight.
  • Southern New Hampshire had already clinched one of the four NE10 postseason spots and it now waits on Sunday's Adelphi University-Assumption University match to find out its seed for the upcoming NE10 Championship. An Adelphi win will solidify SNHU as the No. 3 seed and would set up a semifinal match with No. 2 Franklin Pierce University. An Assumption win would knock the Penmen back to the No. 4 seed and they would then play top-seeded Adelphi in the semis. Adelphi is hosting the entire NE10 Championship on May 3-4.
  • SNHU still leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 20-6, but sees its winning streak against the Purple Knights snapped at 19, as the Penmen lose to Saint Michael's for the first time since Apri 8, 2009 (5-4). SNHU had also won seven-in-a-row on the road in the series, with SMC defeating the Penmen on its home court for the first time since Sept. 30, 2007 (6-3).
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will head to Adelphi for NE10 Championship Weekend on May 3-4. SNHU will play a semifinal match Saturday, May 3 against either Franklin Pierce or Adelphi.
