Jorge Burgos (Santo Domingo, D.R.) continued his torrid stretch, going 4-for-9 with three RBI, as the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team recorded a pair of wins against Adelphi University on Sunday at Penmen Field. SNHU notched a 6-1 win in the opener, before pulling away for a 9-1 victory in seven innings in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Southern New Hampshire jumped on Adelphi with two in the first when Burgos led off with a base hit and sophomore Nater Wachter (Concord, N.H.) followed two batters later with a home run to right-center.
- The score stayed that way until Adelphi scraped across a run on a two-out infield single to make it 2-1 in the seventh.
- The Penmen answered the run in the home half when junior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) reached on an RBI fielder's choice.
- SNHU collected some breathing room in the eighth, taking advantage of a pair of Panther errors to score three runs and widen the gap to 6-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
- Wachter was 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, a home run and a pair of walks.
- Valera went 2-for-4 with a double.
- Burgos finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.
- Senior Jancarlos Colon (Santa Isabel, P.R.) was 1-for-3.
- Freshman Jackson Marshall (Hooksett, N.H.; HBP), DeMaro (RBI, run) and Lavigne were all 1-for-4.
- Adelphi's starter, Dawson Montesa, entered the day 8-0 with a 1.87 ERA in nine starts. He had allowed just 48 hits over 62-and-two-thirds innings, while striking out 96 and walking only 19. The Penmen tagged him with his first loss of the year, as he gave up three runs on seven hits over seven innings, walking four and punching out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- SNHU scored first in the third, with an RBI double from Burgos and a sacrifice fly by junior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) making it 2-0.
- A three-run fourth – highlighted by a two-run double from Burgos – extended the Penmen advantage to 5-0.
- A two-run single off the bat of Lavigne underscored a three-run fifth that broke it open at 8-0.
- Adelphi pushed one across in the sixth before Risedorf answered with a solo shot to center in the home half.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
- Burgos was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double.
- Valera finished 1-for-1 with two runs scored and a pair of walks.
- Risedorf (two RBI, two runs, home run, walk), Lavigne (two RBI, run, walk), DeMaro (RBI, run, walk) and Colon (two runs, walk) were all 1-for-2.
- Marshall (run, double, HBP) and Pisano each went 1-for-3.
- Sophomore Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) needed only five pitches to set down all three batters he faced in the sixth, though he did allow an inherited runner to score.
- Senior Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) gave up one hit in a scoreless frame.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire has won 11 of its last 12, including four straight.
- The Penmen pick up a game on first-place Franklin Pierce University and now sit one-and-a-half games back in the NE10 Northeast Division. SNHU can gain another half-game with a win Tuesday against the University of New Haven, before the Penmen end the regular-season with three at home against FPU.
- SNHU leads the all-time series, 17-12. The teams had alternated wins over the previous five meetings and split the previous eight, but the Penmen have now won four of the last six. SNHU has also captured nine-in-a-row at Penmen Field, though this was the first meeting there since the NE10 Championship title game May 21, 2021.
- Wachter's 13th home run of the season tied him for the team lead with Marshall. He now has 28 in his two-year career, placing him third in the program's all-time record book. He and Marshall are tied for fifth on the single-season home run list.
- Risedorf's long-ball was his fourth of the year and eighth of his career.
- Burgos has a season-long eight-game hitting streak, during which he is 15-for-31 (.484) with five home runs, 13 RBI and 14 runs scored.
- Colon has a hit in 36 of his 40 games this year, including 15 of his last 16, and 12 straight.
