Goldey-Beacom College Defeats SNHU Softball 5-0 At NCAA East Regional

Lightning Pitcher Caitlyn Burch Spins No-Hitter for Her 20th Win, Eliminating Penmen

Goldey-Beacom College defeated Southern New Hampshire University Softball 5-0 on Saturday to eliminate the Penmen from the NCAA East Regional.  Lightning pitcher Caitlyn Burch threw a no-hitter to win her 20th game of the season.
SEASON RECAP
  • SNHU advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 2019 season when they recorded a pair of wins over Georgian Court, but lost twice to Saint Anselm.
  • In 20 seasons as the Head Coach of the Penmen, Deb Robitaille has taken seven teams to the NCAA tournament and collected 489 wins.
  • Three Penmen, senior Jordyn Resetar (Hanover, Pa.), junior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.), and junior Peyton Feldman (Foxborough, Mass.) earned Northeast-10 First-Team All-Conference.  Resetar, who led the team with a .360 batting average, was also named NFCA Second-Team All-East Region.
  • Lineman finished up with a team-leading five homers and 37 RBIs.
  • Senior Amelia Freitas (Plymouth, Mass.) earned 11 wins in the circle and sophomore Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) had 10 wins.
  • The team .293 batting average was the highest for the Penmen since the 2015 season when the team went 35-9.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Goldey-Beacom, playing as the "road team" after losing a coin toss, scored in the top of the first.  Ariana Mirenda singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Alex Lowry.
  • Chasedy Johnson started the third with a bunt single, moved up on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Wynter Radcliffe.
  • Rayna Pelcak started the Lightning fourth with a single, advancing on a bunt and a fly out.  She scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
  • Johnson singled in the fifth, scoring on a triple by Mirenda.  Mirenda came across with the final run on a grounder by Radcliffe.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Penmen did draw six walks, but hit into three double plays.
  • Freitas worked into the seventh inning in-the-circle for the Penmen, and Colbert finished up, getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam without allowing a run.
  • Burch improves to 20-5 on the season.  The transfer from U of Mary Washington recorded a 1.74 ERA.   She also had thrown a no-hitter in 2022.
NOTES
  • SNHU and Goldey-Beacom have now split the four all-time meetings.  This was the first post-season meeting between the programs.
