HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • Franklin Pierce jumped all over Junior Austin Trumpour (Jensen Beach, Fla.) in the first, putting up four runs, including a two-run home run by Anthony Marcano.
  • A Michael Quiros homer in the third gave the Ravens a 5-0 lead.
  • Southern New Hampshire grabbed three back in the third, with the big hit coming courtesy of a two-run home run to left-center off the bat of Wachter to trim the deficit to 5-3.
  • After FPU nudged the lead to 6-3 in the top of the fourth, the Penmen scored twice in the home half, including an RBI single from junior Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.), to pull within 6-5. An infield single in the sixth from Fernandez plated a run and tied the game.
  • It was all Franklin Pierce from there, however, snapping the tie in the seventh, adding two more in the eighth and three in the ninth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 1
  • Pisano finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Wachter (two RBI, run, home run, steal) and Colon (run, double) were each 2-for-5.
  • Junior Frankie DeMaro (Newburgh, N.Y.) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a double.
  • Fernandez (two RBI) and Lavigne (RBI, run) were both 1-for-4.
  • Junior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) was 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Trumpour (4-3) gave up seven runs – six earned – on nine hits, while striking out nine and not walking a batter, in seven innings of work.
  • Sophomore Devin Divita (New Hartford, Conn.) yielded two runs on three hits in an inning.
  • Senior Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) walked the only batter he faced and was charged with a run.
  • Junior Connor Jensen (Shelton, Conn.) allowed a hit to both batters he faced and was charged with a pair of runs.
  • Sophomore Jack Davis (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) threw a hitless frame, striking out one and walking a batter, but did allow an inherited runner to score.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
  • SNHU came out swinging in game two, sending 11 to the plate, as it scored seven times in the bottom of the first. Wachter's three-run bomb to left-center started it, with a Lavigne RBI single, two-run double from Valera and a run-scoring double by Fernandez doing the rest of the damage.
  • Valera drove in two more in the second with a bases-loaded single that scored a third run on an error by the left fielder to make it an even 10-0.
  • A pair of home runs against junior Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) in the third sliced the Franklin Pierce deficit in half at 10-5.
  • Marshall and Pisano hit back-to-back solo shots in the fourth to stretch the advantage to 12-5.
  • Two more in the fifth made it 14-5, before Valera hit a solo home run to center to lead off the sixth and junior Steven Kienzle (Holbrook, N.Y.) followed two batters later with a two-run no-doubter to left that brought the score to 17-5.
  • A two-run homer from Quiros in the eighth closed the scoring.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – GAME 2
  • Marshall finished 2-for-2 with two RBI, three runs scored, a home run, double and pair of walks.
  • Valera (five RBI, two runs, home run, double) and Pisano (RBI, three runs, home run) were both 3-for-5.

  • Lavigne was 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a pair of walks.
  • Wachter went 1-for-4 with three RBI, a run, home run and a walk.
  • Colon (two runs, walk, two steals) and Kienzle (two RBI, run, home run) were each 1-for-5.
  • Risedorf finished 0-for-4, but walked twice, scored a pair of runs and stole a base.
  • Lendrum relinquished five runs on five hits over three innings, fanning a pair and walking three.
  • Junior Jake Lapham (Lansingburgh, N.Y.) twirled one scoreless frame, giving up a hit, while striking out one and walking one.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire has won 13 of its last 15, including six of seven, as it had its five-game win streak snapped.
  • The Penmen are now tied with Bentley University in second place in the NE10 Northeast Division, just one game back of first-place Franklin Pierce. SNHU will earn at least a share of the Northeast Division crown for the eighth straight season with a win, but will also need Bentley to lose to Saint Michael's College to claim the No. 1 seed and a home game in the first round of the NE10 Championship on Tuesday (May 6). Any other scenario and SNHU will drop to the No. 3 seed and go on the road in the first round to take on Bentley.
  • Southern New Hampshire now leads the all-time series with Franklin Pierce, 68-51-1, and has won 28 of the last 33 meetings with the Ravens. SNHU had won 14 of 16, including six-in-a-row, entering the day. The Penmen have also captured 16 of 21 at home, including eight of the last 10 and four of five.
  • Wachter's two home runs give him a team-high 15 on the season and 24 for his career, moving him into sole possession of third place on the all-time list. Wachter is also second on the single-season list and needs five more to break the mark.
  • Wachter also moved into fifth place on the program's career RBI list (123).
  • Marshall's long-ball was his 14th of the season, extending his rookie record and moving him into a third-place tie on the single-season list.
  • Pisano went deep for the third time this year and 11th time in his career.
  • Valera's homer was his fourth of the season and fifth of his career.
  • Kienzle's first home run this season is the third of his career.
  • Trumpour became the 11th member of the program to reach the 200-strikeout plateau and now sits in 10th all-time (203).
  • Varney had not thrown more than three-and-a-third innings or struck out more than four batters in any game this season.
  • Colon has a hit in 38 of his 43 games this year, including 17 of his last 19 and 14 of 15.
