Avery Fitcher (Concord, N.H.) scored a pair of second-half goals, including the 73rd-minute game winner, to carry the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team over the University of Bridgeport in the season opener Tuesday at Ouellette Stadium.
KEY MOMENT
- Fitcher put the Penmen ahead for good with 17:53 remaining in the contest as her initial bid from the middle of the box was blocked by a Bridgeport defender, but she corralled the loose ball and fired a shot past the diving Purple Knights goalkeeper and inside the left post.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire is now unbeaten in its last six home openers (5-0-1), including five straight versus Bridgeport (4-0-1).
- Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series with Bridgeport, 16-4-3, and is now unbeaten in the last 10 meetings (8-0-2). SNHU is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings at home, including a perfect 3-0-0 at Ouellette Stadium.
