The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team earned a 3-0 shutout victory over Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field. The win came in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.


KEY MOMENT

Freshman Sophie Bilodeau (Milford, N.H.) capped a three-goal second quarter for the Penmen, scoring in the 29th minute, knocking in her first career goal with an assist to freshman Kim Dull (Wilnis, Netherlands).


NOTES

  • Junior midfielder Amelia Crocombe (Somerset, England) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with an unassisted strike.
  • Just 71 seconds later, graduate forward Minke van de Poll (Oosterbeek, Netherlands) converted on a penalty corner, assisted by junior Abby Forbes (Boscawen, N.H.), who handled the insert.
  • SNHU dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Lincoln Memorial 33-10, including a 19-6 edge in shots on goal
  • The Penmen also held a 15-7 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) earned the win with one save while playing the first half.
  • Freshman Margaux de Bievre (Amsterdam, Netherlands) added four saves in the second half to complete the combined shutout.
  • Sophomore Julia Giampietro (Sandwich, Mass.) recorded a defensive save early in the third quarter to keep the Railsplitters off the scoreboard.
  • The clean sheet marked the Penmen's second consecutive shutout.
  • Lincoln Memorial's keeper, Cayla Wiggins, recorded 16 saves in a strong effort to keep the Railsplitters within reach.
  • Southern New Hampshire entered the season ranked 8th in the NFHCA Preseason Poll.
  • With the victory, SNHU improves to 2-2 overall, bouncing back after a challenging start against nationally-ranked opponents.
