Southern New Hampshire University once again controlled large stretches of play on Saturday afternoon, but Saint Michael's College completed a two-game Northeast 10 sweep with a 2-1 victory at Cairns Arena.
KEY MOMENT
After Saint Michael's extended its lead early in the third period, sophomore Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) brought the Penmen within one with an even-strength goal at 9:13, but SNHU was unable to find the equalizer down the stretch.
NOTES
- Saint Michael's opened the scoring late in the first period with an even-strength goal by Ty Bloom at 19:50 to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
- The Purple Knights doubled their advantage at 5:46 of the third period before SNHU answered minutes later.
- Kayser's goal was assisted by junior Coleman Nee (Arlington, Mass.) and junior Nic Dallaire (Waltham, Mass.).
- SNHU generated consistent pressure in the offensive zone and finished the game with a 39-27 edge in shots on goal.
- Junior Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) made 25 saves in net for the Penmen.
- Saint Michael's goaltender Evan Plunkett recorded 38 saves to secure the win.
- SNHU went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Saint Michael's was also held scoreless on five man-advantage opportunities.
- With the result, SNHU is now 31-58-7 all-time against Saint Michael's, including a 14-31-3 mark in away games.
