Southern New Hampshire University built a three-goal lead in the opening period, but Franklin Pierce University rallied to hand the Penmen a 4-3 loss Friday night at The Ice Den, extending SNHU's skid to three straight games.
KEY MOMENT
After SNHU jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first period, Franklin Pierce scored the final four goals of the game, including the eventual game-winner just 12 seconds into the third period.
NOTES
- Sophomore Darby McCarthy (Whitefish, Mont.) opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game, finishing a play set up by sophomore Josh Russell (Stoney Creek, Ontario) and sophomore Adam Boucher (Uniontown, Pa.).
- SNHU extended the lead to 2-0 at 3:13 of the first period when sophomore Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored, assisted by Russell and McCarthy.
- Freshman Kenny Thurston (Plymouth, Mass.) made it 3-0 at 9:57 of the opening period, with assists from senior Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) and senior Tyler Murray (Barre, Vt.).
- Franklin Pierce answered with a late first-period goal and scored twice in the second period to pull even at 3-3.
- The Ravens took the lead for good 12 seconds into the third period on a goal by Austin Pick.
- McCarthy finished the night with a goal and an assist to lead the Penmen offense.
- SNHU held a 35-29 advantage in shots on goal.
- Junior Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) made 25 saves in net for the Penmen, while Jeremy Connor earned the win with 50 minutes of scoreless relief in goal for Franklin Pierce.
- SNHU went 0-for-1 on the power play, while Franklin Pierce finished 0-for-4 with the man advantage.
- Franklin Pierce has claimed the first three games in the season series with SNHU. The Penmen hold a 42-21-8 edge all-time.
