Senior Day Sparks Penmen in 7-3 Win Over Franklin Pierce

Ice Hockey Earns Weekend Split, Looks Ahead To Saint Anselm

Southern New Hampshire University celebrated Senior Recognition Day with a complete team effort, rolling to a 7-3 win over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast 10 action at The Ice Den.

KEY MOMENT

After Franklin Pierce cut the lead to one late in the first period, SNHU answered with four unanswered goals spanning the second and third periods to pull away and secure the victory.   

NOTES
  • SNHU opened the scoring at 5:27 of the first period when freshman Aidan Rufa (Massena, N.Y.) scored at even strength, assisted by freshman Zach Vickerman (Queensville, Ontario) and junior Coleman Nee (Arlington, Mass.).
  • Senior Tyler Murray (Barre, Vt.) made it 2-0 just 24 seconds later, finishing a play set up by senior Ryan Pomposelli (Needham, Mass.) and senior Jim Minnig (Auburn, Pa.).
  • Franklin Pierce answered with a pair of power-play goals in the first period, but SNHU took a 3-2 lead into the intermission on a goal by freshman Tootoo Fotheringham (Winnipeg, Manitoba).  His first career goal came at 13:20 on a deep slap shot.
  • SNHU extended the lead early in the second period when freshman Bryan Kim (Calgary, Alberta) scored at 2:25, assisted by senior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ontario).
  • Vickerman added a power-play goal at 3:59 of the second period to push the lead to 5-2.
  • Pomposelli scored on the power play at 13:19 of the third period, assisted by Lynch and senior Kurt Watson (London, Ontario).
  • Watson capped the scoring at 17:18 with an empty-net goal, assisted by Murray.
  • Seven different Penmen found the back of the net, while Murray, Pomposelli, Watson, Vickerman, and Lynch each recorded multiple points.
  • Junior Collin Berke (Crofton, Md.) earned the win in net, stopping 23 shots.
  • Berke, and the seniors Murray, Pomposelli, Minnig, Lynch, and Watson were honored on Senior Day.
  • SNHU went 2-for-4 on the power play and outshot Franklin Pierce, 32-26.
  • With the win, SNHU earned the series split and improved its all-time record against the Ravens to 43-21-8 all-time.
