Penmen still in driver's seat for No. 1 seed

When and Where: October 17, 2026 – Garden City, N.Y. (Motamed Field)
Score: Adelphi University 1, #4 Southern New Hampshire University 0

The fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team had its 13-match unbeaten streak to begin the season ended Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Adelphi University at Motamed Field.

KEY MOMENTS
  • With the match deadlocked in a scoreless tie, Adelphi stunned the Penmen with an Agustin Soldo goal with 2:56 on the clock.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, ranked fourth in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, had its 13-match unbeaten streak snapped. The Penmen also lose for just the third time in their last 26 matches (20-3-3-).
  • Despite the loss, SNHU has clinched a top-two seed and a first round home match for the NE10 Championship. They can win the NE10 Regular-Season Championship, top seed and a first-round bye with a tie or a win against Franklin Pierce University in the regular season finale. The Ravens still have three other NE10 matches to play, including one late Saturday. A tie or a loss in any of them would also allow the Penmen to clinch.
  • Southern New Hampshire still leads the all-time series with Adelphi, 11-8-0, but saw its six-match winning streak snapped. SNHU has allowed just two goals to the Panthers during the last seven meetings. The Penmen had also captured two straight on the road, as Adelphi defends its home pitch for the first time since Sept. 28, 2019 (2-1). SNHU had not allowed a goal to the Panthers for 292:37 prior to the 88th-minute strike.
  • SNHU dominated most of the match, outshooting Adelphi, 28-5, including 9-2 in shots on goal, while also holding a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Fifth year goalkeeper Alvaro Garcia (Barcelona, Spain) made one save for the Penmen.
  • SNHU had posted three straight shutouts, but saw its scoreless streak ended at 405:11. The Penmen now have five clean sheets in their last seven outings, relinquishing just two goals over the last 671:19 – a goals-against average (GAA) of 0.27. SNHU is outscoring its opponents, 24-2, during the seven-match stretch.
  • The Penmen are now 172-43-32 (.761) over their last 247 matches dating back to the beginning of the 2013 National Championship season. SNHU is also 44-7-9 (.808) over its last 60 matches dating back to 2023.
UP NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Wednesday, Oct. 21 (7 p.m.) when they travel to Post University for non-conference action.
  • The next and final regular-season home contest for SNHU is Saturday, Oct. 24 (7 p.m.) when it plays host to in-state rival Franklin Pierce University on NH ODP, Manchester Lightning and Raymond Youth Soccer Night.
