Sophomore Eyglo Armannsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) won a pair of matches, including both the match clincher and doubles point clincher, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team took down Adelphi University, 4-2, Saturday at the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown.
KEY MOMENTS
- With Southern New Hampshire leading, 3-2, Armannsdottir eased past Matilda Buchen, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 5 singles.
- Armannsdottir also set the tone early, clinching the doubles point to put the Penmen up, 1-0, as she teamed with classmate Megan Leck (Newcastle, England) to defeat Genesis Beltran and Sara Lindeman, 6-2, at the second flight.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire is 7-0 for the first time since the 2022-23 season when it began the campaign with 14 consecutive victories.
- Adelphi still leads the all-time series, 14-12, but SNHU halts a five-match losing streak, as it defeats the Panthers for the first time since Oct. 21, 2022 (4-3). That 2022 home match was also the last time the Penmen beat Adelphi at home, as this snapped a two-match home slide.
- After the Penmen fell behind, 2-1, sophomore Barbara Brito (São Brás de Alportel, Portugal) evened the score with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Lindeman at No. 3 singles.
- Leck put SNHU on the brink of victory by edging Beltran, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Penmen wrap up their fall slate Saturday, Oct. 24 (10:45 a.m.) when they travel to Providence College.
