#12 Bentley Pulls Away Late, Women's Basketball Sets Sights on Postseason

Brennan nets 15; SNHU earns No. 6 seed in Northeast 10 Championship

Sophomore Taylor Brennan (Southbury, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 points, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's basketball team was outscored 22-6 in the fourth quarter as No. 12 Bentley University pulled away for a 77-59 Northeast 10 victory Tuesday evening in the regular-season finale at the Charles A. Dana Center.

KEY MOMENTS
  • The Penmen came out strong and matched the Falcons shot for shot in the opening quarter, as the teams were tied, 17-17, after 10 minutes. SNHU used an 8-0 spurt midway through the second quarter to build its largest lead of the game at eight points, and carried a 40-37 advantage into halftime after shooting 57.1 percent (16-28) from the field in the first half.
  • Bentley responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Penmen 18-13 to take a 55-53 lead into the final period. The Falcons then took control in the fourth, holding SNHU to 2-of-14 shooting and just six points in the frame. Bentley used a 14-0 run early in the quarter to create separation and led by as many as 18 points down the stretch.

  • Brennan finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range, and added four assists.
  • Senior Meghan Gordon (Attleboro, Mass.) recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.
  • Junior Ava Winterburn (New Boston, N.H.) contributed nine points and five rebounds, while sophomore Kameron St. Pierre (Swansea, Mass.) added eight points off the bench on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Graduate student Sydnie DeVries (Monson, Mass.) grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists.
  • SNHU shot 41.8 percent (23-55) from the field and 37.5 percent (6-16) from 3-point range, while Bentley shot 44.9 percent (31-69) overall.
  • The Penmen were outrebounded, 39-34, and committed 24 turnovers, which led to 21 Bentley points.
  • Niya Morgen led the Falcons with a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds, while Brennan Doran added 16 points and Kayana Armbrister chipped in 12 for the Falcons.
  • Bentley leads SNHU 54-9 in the all-time series and the Falcons have won five straight and nine of the last ten.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • SNHU earned the No. 6 seed in the Northeast 10 Championship and will travel to No. 3 Assumption for a first-round contest Sunday (1:30 p.m.)
  • Bentley, the regular-season champion, secured the No. 1 seed and receives a bye to the semifinal round.  The NE10 Championship is presented by Visit Central Florida.
