SNHU Ice Hockey jumped out to an early two-goal lead but saw Assumption University score four times in the second period to hand the Penmen a 4-3 loss on Saturday afternoon in Northeast 10 action at The Ice Den Arena.
KEY MOMENT
After SNHU carried a 2-0 advantage into the second period, Assumption erupted for four goals in a span of 14:53 to seize control of the game and build a 4-2 lead before the intermission.
NOTES
- SNHU struck first on the power play at 2:08 of the opening period when sophomore Ryan Kayser (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored his fifth goal of the season off an assist from senior Brendan Lynch (Nepean, Ontario).
- The Penmen doubled the lead at 10:21 of the first as freshman Zach Vickerman (Queensville, Ontario) finished a play set up by junior Anthony Marchant (Norwood, Mass.).
- Assumption answered early in the second period and went on to score four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 lead into the third.
- SNHU cut the deficit to one at 4:21 of the third period when sophomore Josh Russell (Stoney Creek, Ontario) scored off feeds from sophomore Kyle Slingerland (Stittsville, Ontario) and Lynch for his first career goal.
- Lynch finished the afternoon with two assists, giving him four points over the weekend, and 92 for his career.
- Junior goaltender Sean Guerin (Chicago, Ill.) made 34 saves in the loss.
- SNHU held a 40-38 edge in shots on goal and won 64.9 percent of the faceoffs.
- The Penmen finished 1-for-1 on the power play, while Assumption went 0-for-3.
- The Greyhounds take the season series and lead SNHU all-time 47-45-5.
