Senior JR Bozek (Danville, N.H.) was 5-for-8 with 4 RBI, classmate Dakota Britt (Rockwall, Texas) went 4-for-9 and knocked in three, and freshman Zak Whitney (Keene, N.H.) struck out 10 and allowed just one run over seven innings in game one, as the 21st-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team swept both games of a doubleheader from Southern Connecticut State University to open NE10 play Saturday at the Ballpark at SCSU. The Penmen rolled to a 12-5 victory in game one and rallied for a 5-3 triumph in the second game.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • With the game tied, 1-1, in the fourth, Southern New Hampshire put up three runs – highlighted by a two-run single from graduate student Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) – to grab a 4-1 lead.
  • A run-scoring double from Britt in the sixth nudged the score to 5-1 before a four-run seventh – sparked by a two-run single from junior Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.) – stretched the advantage to 9-1.
  • A two-run single from Bozek capped a three-run eighth that ballooned the lead to 12-1.
  • Southern Connecticut would put up four in the home half.
  • Bozek (three RBI, two runs, double) and senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.; two runs, double) each finished 3-for-4.
  • Graduate student Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 and scored twice.
  • Britt went 2-for-6 with an RBI and a double.
  • Junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) was 1-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and pair of runs scored.
  • Valera turned in a 1-for-4, two-RBI, two-run performance.
  • Whitney (2-0) allowed just one run on seven hits over seven innings, punching out 10 and walking just one.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Southern Connecticut jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and was in front, 3-1, in the third when a two-run single by Britt tied the game and powered a three-run frame that put SNHU in front, 4-3.
  • Bozek's run-scoring base knock capped the scoring in the fourth.
  • Britt went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
  • Bozek finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Cumiskey was 1-for-2 and scored a run.
  • Valera (RBI) and Junior Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y.; run) were both 1-for-3.
  • Senior Jake Risedorf (Barkhamsted, Conn.) entered the game with one out in the first inning and wound up going four innings, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out five and walking five to earn the win and improve to 2-1.
  • Junior Jack Davis (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) allowed one hit and fanned a pair in a scoreless frame.
  • Graduate student Noah Wachter (Concord, N.H.) collected his second save with one-and-two-thirds of scoreless work. He struck out four and walked one.
NOTES
  • SNHU, ranked 21st in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and receiving votes in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Baseball Coaches Poll, has won 10 of its last 13, including seven of nine and five of six.
  • SCSU still leads the all-time series, 50-32, but the Penmen have won the last 16 meetings, including six straight at Southern Connecticut. The last win in the series for the Owls was April 7, 2013 (12-4), while their last home victory over SNHU came April 30, 2011 (3-0).
  • Over his last two outings, Whitney is 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA, allowing just one run on 10 hits over 14 innings, striking out 24 and walking one.
  • Britt, who had his 11-game hitting streak snapped in the previous outing, re-starts his streak at two games and has now hit safely in 13 of 14 contests this year.
  • Keneston's seven-game hit streak was halted in game one. He has hit safely in eight of his last nine.
