Colbert Blanks Holy Family as Penmen Split in Melbourne

Donovan drives in both runs in Monday Win

Southern New Hampshire University softball split a pair of games Monday at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, falling to the University of Jamestown, 11-1, before bouncing back with a 2-0 shutout of Holy Family University.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The opener marked the first-ever meeting between the Penmen and Jamestown, with the Jimmies using a pair of big innings to secure the victory.
  • Jamestown plated seven runs in the first inning and added four more in the second to build an early 11-0 advantage.
  • Junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) drove in SNHU's lone run with an RBI single in the third inning, scoring freshman Payton Bryson (Franklin, N.H.), who had singled and stolen two bases in the frame.
  • Senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) added a hit for the Penmen.
  • Junior Charlotte Donovan (Biddeford, Maine) took the loss in the circle, while freshman Sophie Roussel (Goffstown, N.H.) provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) was dominant in the nightcap, tossing a complete-game shutout as the Penmen defeated Holy Family, 2-0. The victory marked Colbert's third career shutout.
  • Colbert scattered six hits and struck out 11, allowing just one walk in the seven-inning effort.
  • SNHU struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Donovan delivered an RBI single to right field to score senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.), who had walked and stolen second.
  • The Penmen added an insurance run in the fifth as Donovan lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, again scoring Feldman to account for the final margin.
  • Feldman reached base three times, scoring both runs in the contest, while DeMoura added a hit.
NOTES
  • Donovan has three hits in her first eight at bats (.375) to lead the Penmen through four games.  
  • The Penmen have made just one error to start the season.
  • SNHU improves to 4-1 all-time against Holy Family. 
  • Colbert, who also delivered a strong start Sunday against St. Cloud State, has 17 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitch, allowing just 10 hits.
