Men's Basketball Erases 19-Point Deficit, Falls in OT at Saint Michael's, 81-72

Quest for three-peat ends for the Penmen

When and Where: March 4, 2026 – Colchester, Vt. (Ross Sports Center)
Score: Saint Michael's College 81, Southern New Hampshire University 72 (OT)
Record: SNHU 15-14, SMC 18-12

Sophomore Jojo Wallace (Milford, Conn.) and senior T.J. Morris (Jamaica, N.Y.) each scored 20-plus points, but the seventh-seeded Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team – despite erasing a 19-point deficit – dropped an 81-72 overtime decision to sixth-seeded Saint Michael's College on Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship, presented by Visit Central Florida, at the the Ross Sports Center.
KEY MOMENTS
  • Saint Michael's scored the first eight points of the game and led by as many as 19 (36-17) in the first half, but SNHU closed the opening frame on a 12-3 run to trim its halftime deficit to 41-31. Wallace led the way with six points during the stretch, while Morris and redshirt-junior Jack Hall (Avon, Conn.) each added three.
  • The Penmen trailed, 54-45, with just over 11 minutes remaining in the contest when a Morris bucket sparked a run of seven straight points that was part of a 19-6 barrage – powered by 12 from Morris and five from Wallace – that put the Penmen in front, 64-60, with 1:41 to go. SMC scored four straight – all at the line – to tie the game at 64-all with 26 seconds to go and the Penmen would miss a heavily contested layup at the buzzer to send it to overtime.
  • It was all Saint Michael's in the extra session, as the Purple Knights scored 16 of the first 19 points to break it open at 80-67 with 39 seconds on the clock.
NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire, which had won seven of its last eight, sees its five-game winning streak come to an end.
  • SNHU dips to 30-17 (.638) all-time in its 21st appearance in the NE10 Championship, including 2-1 against Saint Michael's. In the most recent meeting, the Penmen scored a 97-65 semifinal road victory March 6, 2024 and then went on to win their first of two straight NE10 titles.
  • The Penmen also watch their league-record, eight-game NE10 Championship winning streak grind to a halt. American International College (1984-86) and Saint Anselm (1995-97, 2005-07) previously captured seven straight.
  • Southern New Hampshire falls to 4-1 in overtime in the NE10 postseason. After defeating Bentley University, 96-93, in double-overtime in Saturday's opening round, the Penmen are just the third team in the history of the NE10 Championship to play consecutive OT contests. The 2006 Saint Anselm College team did it in the exact same fashion as its cross-town rival (2OT opening round, OT semifinal), while the 2025 Pace University squad used OT to win its semifinal, but fell at SNHU in the title game.
  • SNHU was playing in the NE10 Championship semifinals for the fourth straight season – the first time that has happened in program history. The Penmen went to three consecutive semis from 2003-05 and again from 2015-17.
  • Wallace scored a game-high 26 points (9-24 FG, 4-9 3-FG, 4-5 FT), collected six rebounds and dished three assists.
  • Morris recorded a career-high 21 points (10-21 FG, 1-4 FT), matched his career best with eight boards and handed out a pair of helpers.
  • Hall netted nine points (3-7 FG, 3-6 3-FG).
  • SNHU still leads the all-time series with Saint Michael's, 47-18, and has won 22 of the last 29 meetings, including 11 of 15, though SMC has captured three of the last four, which have all taken place this season. The Purple Knights scored a 78-71 home victory back on Nov. 25 and then posted a 79-64 win at SNHU on Jan. 7. The Penmen entered the contest having won eight of the last 10, including seven of eight, on the road in the series.
  • Wallace has scored in double figures in all 28 contests this season, ranking fourth in the country in scoring (24.8 ppg). Wallace has now netted 20-plus points in 16 straight and is averaging 27.4 ppg during the stretch, which includes nine performances of 27 or more.
  • Wallace's 26 give him 693 points on the season, moving him into a second-place tie on SNHU's single-season scoring list with Kirk Jackson (1989-90). He sits 12 points shy of matching the record of 705, which is held by Cleveland Woods (1986-87).
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen will await their fate for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The NCAA Selection Show airs Sunday (March 8) at 11 p.m. on NCAA.com
