Lavigne Lifts Baseball to Wild, 14-13 Win Over Saint Anselm

Lavigne homers twice, including two-run, walk-off in ninth

When and Where: April 1, 2026 — Hooksett, N.H. (Penmen Field)
Score: Southern New Hampshire University 14, Saint Anselm College 13
Records: SNHU 17-8 (9-4 NE10), Saint Anselm 9-12 (7-6 NE10)

Senior Kyle Lavigne (Bedford, N.H.) hit a solo home run to tie the game in the eighth and then smacked a two-run, walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team to a 14-13 victory against cross-town rival Saint Anselm College on Wednesday at Penmen Field.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After Saint Anselm grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Southern New Hampshire took advantage of four walks and a hit batsmen – including one of each with the bases loaded – to push four across in the home half of the inning.
  • The Hawks responded with five in the top of the second, including a grand slam from George Slauson that made it 6-4.
  • Saint Anselm hit another three-run bomb in the fourth that extended the lead to 9-5.
  • SNHU began to chip away in the fifth, with an RBI base knock to center from graduate student Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) making it 9-6.
  • The Penmen struck for four in the sixth, with a two-run blast to center off the bat of graduate student Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) pulling them within 9-8. A sac fly from junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) tied the game, before senior JR Bozek (Danville, N.H.) delivered an RBI single to left-center that put the hosts on top, 10-9.
  • Saint Anselm scored single runs in the seventh and eighth to go back in front, 11-10, but Lavigne belted a pay-off pitch over the wall in center to tie the game at 11-all in the eighth. Later in the inning, senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) plated the go-ahead run when he drove a base hit back through the middle.
  • The Hawks, however, scored twice in the top of the ninth to take a 13-12 lead.
  • In the bottom of the inning, senior Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.) drew a one-out walk, before Lavigne hammered a 3-1 pitch to center, as the Penmen walked off with a wild win.
  • Lavigne (four RBI, three runs, two home runs), McNamara (three RBI, two runs, home run) and junior Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.; run, walk) were all 2-for-4.
  • Cisco finished 3-for-4 with a pair of walks, a double, an RBI and a run scored.
  • Bozek (RBI, two runs, double) and Pisano (two RBI, two runs) were both 3-for-6.
  • Redshirt-junior Zachary Brassill (No. Hampton, N.H.) lasted the first inning-and-two-thirds, allowing five runs on a hit and six walks.
  • Freshman Shawn Taylor (Sewell, N.J.) was the most effective of the five pitchers for the Penmen, walking a batter in an otherwise perfect frame of work.
  • Senior Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) gave up two runs on four hits over an inning-and-two-thirds, striking out a pair and walking one, but still managed to collect the win, as he improved to 2-1 on the season.
