Graduate student Shane McNamara (Londonderry, N.H.) went 9-for-10 with six extra-base hits, including three home runs, and 15 RBI to lead an offensive onslaught for the 25th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University baseball team, as it swept a second consecutive doubleheader from Franklin Pierce University on Sunday at Pappas Field. SNHU rolled to a 29-3 victory in game one, before posting a 20-7 win in the second game.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- McNamara set the tone early, hitting a grand slam in the top of the first to lift Southern New Hampshire into the lead at 4-0.
- Junior Casey Cumiskey (Milltown, N.J.) capped a five-run third with a three-run home run that made it 10-1.
- SNHU then exploded for a 14-run fifth. McNamara had five RBI in the inning, alone, with a three-run homer and a two-run double. Senior Jake Pisano (Hamden, Conn.) and Cumiskey also added two-run singles in the frame, which ended with the Penmen on top, 24-1.
- Freshman Christian Cepin (Woodside, N.Y.) had an RBI triple in a two-run sixth and capped the scoring with a two-run homer as part of a three-run seventh.
- McNamara finished 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, nine RBI and three runs scored.
- Cumiskey was 3-for-5 with a home run, walk, five RBI and four runs scored.
- Graduate student Marc Cisco (Long Island City, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, two RBI and three runs scored.
- Pisano wound up 1-for-2 with two walks, a pair of RBI and three runs scored.
- Cepin (home run, triple, three RBI, two runs) and senior Ruben Fernandez (Providence, R.I.; home run, two RBI, two runs) were both 2-for-2.
- Senior Parker Lendrum (Exeter, N.H.) received a lot more support than he would need, as he allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings, striking out five and walking three.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- SNHU again jumped out to a first-inning lead, with a two-run homer from Cisco and run-scoring double by McNamara making it 3-0.
- After Franklin Pierce pulled even in the home half, McNamara's two-run double in the second put the Penmen ahead, 5-3.
- The Ravens again inched closer at 5-4 in the third, but McNamara hit a two-run bomb in the fourth that gave SNHU breathing room at 7-4.
- Cisco's solo shot in the sixth highlighted a two-run inning that made it 9-4.
- Redshirt-junior Brody Keneston (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) underscored a four-run seventh with a three-run double that extended the Penmen advantage to 13-4.
- The Ravens pulled within six in the bottom of the seventh, but SNHU put it away with seven in the top of the eighth. Cumiskey started it with a solo shot, while Keneston's three-run blast served as an exclamation point.
- McNamara went 5-for-5 with a home run, two doubles, a walk, six RBI and three runs scored.
- Cisco finished 3-for-6 with a pair of long-balls, a walk, four RBI and three runs scored.
- Keneston was 2-for-4 with a home run, double, walk, six RBI and a run scored.
- Senior Dakota Britt (Rockwall, Texas) finished 0-for-2, but drew four walks and scored four times.
- Redshirt-junior Zachary Brassill (No. Hampton, N.H.) relinquished four runs on four hits, while fanning six and walking five, over four-and-two-thirds innings.
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked 25th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 and receiving votes in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division II Baseball Coaches Poll, has won 14-in-a-row.
- The Penmen are outscoring their opponents, 198-74, during the 14-game winning streak and averaging more than 14 runs per contest.
- SNHU remains in a tie atop the NE10 standings with Bentley University after the Falcons swept Saint Michael's College on Saturday.
- By outscoring Franklin Pierce, 49-10, in the doubleheader, the Penmen held a 78-28 advantage over the four-game sweep.
- In the 123-game history of the rivalry between the two teams, SNHU had only once scored 20 runs against the Ravens entering the day. The Penmen defeated Franklin Pierce, 20-6, in Rindge back on May 2022.
- Southern New Hampshire leads the all-time series with Franklin Pierce, 72-52-1, and has won 32 of the last 38 meetings with the Ravens, including 19 of 23 and 11 of 13. The Penmen have also won nine-in-a-row at FPU, with their last loss there coming April 30, 2022 (4-3).
- McNamara finished the doubleheader 9-for-10 (.900) with three doubles, three home runs, a walk, 15 RBI and six runs scored, while slashing .909/2.100/3.009.
- Cisco was 5-for-10 with two homers, three walks, six RBI and six runs scored.
- Cumiskey went 4-for-10 with two homers, two walks, six RBI and five runs.
- Lendrum (4-1) tossed eight pitches to record the final out of game one Saturday to earn the save, before coming back Sunday with the complete-game effort. Over his last three appearances, Lendrum is 2-0 with a save and 1.88 ERA, allowing three runs on 10 hits over 14-and-a-third innings.
- McNamara's three home runs give him a team-best 10 on the season and 27 in his career.
- Cumiskey's two home runs give him nine this season and 10 for his career.
- Cisco's two long-balls give him six on the season and 21 in his career.
- Keneston went deep for the 18th time in his career, including the third time this season.
- The homers for Fernandez and Cepin are the first of their careers.
- Junior Joel Valera (Boston, Mass.) had his 14-game hit streak snapped in game one, but he now has a hit in 15 of his last 16 games.
