DeMoura Drives SNHU in Split at No. 18 Franklin Pierce

Junior knocks in five runs in Game 1 as Penmen earn 10-1 win

Southern New Hampshire University softball split a Northeast 10 doubleheader at No. 18 Franklin Pierce University on Saturday afternoon, earning a 10-1 victory in the opener before falling 9-1 in Game 2.  Junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.), who went 4-for-5 on the day, led the way for the Penmen, driving in five runs in Game 1 to power the offensive outburst.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Penmen scored in every inning and rolled to a 10-1 victory in the opener.
  • SNHU opened the scoring in the first inning when senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.) drew a bases-loaded walk to plate freshman Payton Bryson (Franklin, N.H.).
  • The Penmen added two runs in the second inning, as senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) worked a bases-loaded walk and junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • SNHU continued to build the advantage in the third inning when freshman Tori Christie (Barnstead, N.H.) delivered a sacrifice fly and DeMoura added an RBI double to make it 5-0.
  • In the fourth inning, sophomore Livi Sousa (Hudson, Mass.) singled home a run to push the lead to 6-0.
  • The Penmen broke the game open in the fifth inning, as DeMoura launched a three-run home run and sophomore Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.) followed with a solo shot to cap the scoring for SNHU.
  • DeMoura led the offense, going 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while Abbott added two hits and an RBI. Sousa and senior Sidney Rose (Davidson, N.C.) each contributed two hits as part of a 14-hit attack.
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and one run while striking out seven over five innings.  She improved to 14-6 with a 1.82 ERA.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • Franklin Pierce responded in the nightcap, using a pair of big innings to earn a 9-1 victory.
  • The Ravens jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a two-run home run by Maisie Lerette.
  • They added four more runs in the third inning to extend the advantage to 8-1 and take control of the game.
  • SNHU's lone run came in the second inning when Rose delivered an RBI double to score Christie, who had singled.
  • Rose and junior Mikaya Alto (Chelmsford, Mass.) each recorded hits, while Alto reached base multiple times on the day.
NOTES
  • SNHU (16-12) remains tied for third place in the Northeast 10 standings with Assumption (17-13).
  • Franklin Pierce leads the Northeast 10 with a 25-3 conference mark, with Adelphi next at 24-6.
  • The Penmen hold a 66-36 advantage in the all-time series with the Ravens.
  • The home runs by DeMoura and Abbott were their first of the season.
  • In her first career starts, Christie went 1-for-4 with her first RBI.
  • DeMoura has hit safely in eight straight games and leads the Penmen with a .375 batting average, while Lineman, who went 3-for-5 on the day, is hitting .350.
  • Rose went 4-for-6 with a double and an RBI.
  • Feldman had reached safely in 18 consecutive games before going 0-for-3 in Game 2.
