Southern New Hampshire University softball dropped a pair of close games to Adelphi University in its home opener on Friday afternoon, falling 6-4 and 5-4. Sophomore Alyssa Abbott (Hudson, N.H.) led the way offensively for the Penmen, going 4-for-6 with a walk and two runs scored across the doubleheader.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
  • SNHU battled back from an early deficit but came up short in a 6-4 loss in the opener.
  • The Penmen got on the board in the first inning, taking advantage of an Adelphi error to plate the game's first run. After the Panthers answered with three runs in the second on a pair of home runs, SNHU responded with a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by junior Kaysie DeMoura (Taunton, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 3-2.
  • Adelphi added two more runs in the third to extend the lead, but the Penmen answered with a two-run third inning, highlighted by an RBI walk from senior Peyton Feldman (Foxboro, Mass.) and an RBI single from sophomore Livi Sousa (Hudson, Mass.) to make it 5-4.
  • Abbott paced the offense with two hits and two runs scored, while Sousa added two hits and an RBI.
  • The Panthers added an insurance run in the sixth, and SNHU was unable to push across the equalizer late.
  • Junior Julianna Colbert (Burrillville, R.I.) struck out 11 in a complete-game effort in the circle.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Penmen jumped out early in Game 2 but Adelphi rallied late to secure a 5-4 victory.
  • SNHU scored three times in the first inning, capitalizing on two Adelphi errors and an RBI single from Feldman to take a 3-0 lead.
  • The Penmen extended the lead to 4-2 in the third when a run scored on a wild pitch following a double by senior Abby Lineman (Doylestown, Pa.). Adelphi chipped away with single runs in the second and third innings before pulling within 4-3 in the fourth on an RBI single.
  • The Panthers then took the lead for good in the seventh inning on a two-run home run by Maddy Moore — her second homer of the day — as the Pinkerton Academy graduate finished with five hits and five RBIs across the doubleheader.
  • Abbott added two more hits in the nightcap to cap a four-hit day at the plate.
  • Freshman Sophie Roussel (Goffstown, N.H.) made her first career start in the circle for the Penmen, allowing three runs over four innings before yielding to sophomore Kayla O'Boyle (Commack, N.Y.).
NOTES
  • Abbott finished the day 4-for-6 with a walk and two runs scored.
  • Colbert saw her six-game win streak snapped in Game 1. This was the third time in 2026 that Colbert has struck out at least 10 batters in a game, and she leads the Northeast 10 with 89.
  • Adelphi now leads the all-time series, 22-8, and has won nine of the last 11 meetings.
