Freshman Aurel Creveuil (Nanterre, France) won both of his matches, but the third-seed Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team watched second-seeded Assumption University rally for a 4-3 victory in the semifinal round of the NE10 Championship on Thursday afternoon at the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown.
KEY MOMENTS
- Creveuil took care of Alec Pijnacker, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2 singles to build a 2-0 lead for Southern New Hampshire.
- Creveuil also teamed with junior Carlos Molero (Barcelona, Spain) to even the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Luca Figueiredo and Luigi Bassani at No. 2.
- Sophomore Vicente Preto (Sesimbra, Portugal) and junior Albert Modol (Lleida, Spain) clinched the doubles point by doubling up Michele Elia and Igo Kubalka, 6-3, at the top flight.
NOTES
- The match was moved indoors due to the rain that fell throughout the day
- Southern New Hampshire had won seven of its last 10, including four of five, but has now dropped two straight.
- The Penmen dip to 21-14 (.600) all-time in its 20th appearance in the NE10 Championship, including 1-4 against Assumption. This was the first postseason meeting between the two squads since 2011. This is SNHU's 10th straight season in the semifinals.
- Sophomore Marcos Castaneda (Madrid, Spain) played well, taking own Bassani, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 singles to even the match, 3-3, and improve to 14-4 on the season.
- SNHU, which leads the all-time series with Assumption, 18-6, entered the season with a 10-match winning streak against the Greyhounds, but has now lost all three meetings in 2025-26.
- Molero collected the NE10's prestigious Elite 24 Award prior to the match. The honor is bestowned on the student-athletes with the highest GPA at each of the conference's 24 Championships.
