Inigo Iriarte (Pamplona, Spain) added another tally, as the fourth-ranked Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team opened its NCAA Super Region 1 title defense by defeating St. Thomas Aquinas College, 3-0, Thursday afternoon in the season opener at Spartan Field.
KEY MOMENT
- Burusco snapped the scoreless deadlock with just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half when he scored off a feed from freshman Dani Bujanda (Pamplona, Spain).
NOTES
- Southern New Hampshire, ranked fourth in the initial United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, has now captured five straight season openers.
- Southern New Hampshire improves to 6-0 all-time versus St. Thomas Aquinas, which they defeated, 4-2, in last season's lid-lifter at Ouellette Stadium.
- This is the earliest the Penmen have opened the season since 2009 when they pitched a 2-0 shutout against LIU Post on Aug. 27. This is also just the second August match for SNHU since 2019.
- Sophomore Josh Hancock (Windham, Maine) stopped all three shots he faced to record the clean sheet in his first collegiate appearance.
- Bujanda assisted on the first two goals of the match.
- Junior Charlie Preus (London, U.K.) collected an assist on the final goal.
