The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team dropped a 4-1 non-conference decision to seventh-ranked Saint Anselm College on Wednesday evening at Larkin Field. The Hawks scored three first-half goals and added an insurance marker in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
KEY MOMENT
Saint Anselm grabbed the lead just 3:52 into the contest and extended its advantage with a pair of goals in a span of 1:03 during the second quarter. Goals from Meghan Smith (22:05) and Sophie Smith (23:08) pushed the Hawks in front, 3-0, at halftime.
The Penmen got on the board at 42:52 of the third quarter when senior Amelia Crocombe (Taunton, England) came up with a turnover, and scored her first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Saint Anselm answered less than six minutes later on a goal by Maggie McCready to restore the three-goal margin and close out the scoring.
NOTES
- Saint Anselm outshot SNHU, 15-6, and held a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- Amelia Crocombe netted the lone goal for the Penmen, her first of the season and 14th of her career.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) made eight saves in 60 minutes of action.
