Demers Delivers Twice as Field Hockey Tops Southern Connecticut, 2-1

Senior Zoe Demers (Manchester, N.H.) scored both goals, including the game-winner 5:03 into overtime, as the Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team earned a 2-1 non-conference victory over Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.

KEY MOMENT

Demers provided the winner at 65:03, knocking home a rebound after junior Julia Giampietro (Sandwich, Mass.) had her shot stopped by Southern Connecticut goalkeeper Lyndsay Troisi. The goal was Demers' second of the game and lifted the Penmen to their 11th consecutive victory over the Owls.

Demers had given SNHU a 1-0 lead at 13:57 of the opening quarter with her first goal of the season. Southern Connecticut pulled even at 40:58 when Ruby Webb scored off an assist from Avery Vaccaro.

NOTES

  • Demers scored her first two goals of the season and accounted for both SNHU goals. She finished with two shots, both on goal.
  • SNHU held a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in shots on goal.
  • Sophomore Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) made four saves, including one 50 seconds into overtime, to earn the victory.
  • Sophomore Kim Dull (Wilnis, The Netherlands) led the Penmen with five shots, while Giampietro and junior Abby Forbes recorded three apiece.
  • SNHU finished with a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners.
  • The Penmen have won 11 consecutive meetings with Southern Connecticut and lead the all-time series, 11-2.
  • Saturday's matchup was a non-conference contest.
