Munson Earns 100th Career Win as Field Hockey Tops No. 9 Bentley in Shootout

Dull’s third-quarter goal helps Penmen rally for first win of the season

The Southern New Hampshire University field hockey team rallied for a 2-1 shootout victory over ninth-ranked Bentley University on Sunday afternoon, giving head coach Julie Munson her 100th career win.

KEY MOMENT

Sophomore Kim Dull (Wilnis, Netherlands) pulled the Penmen even with 51 seconds remaining in the third quarter, scoring off a penalty corner with an assist from senior Amelia Crocombe (Taunton, England).

After two scoreless overtime periods, SNHU prevailed in the shootout. Senior Zoe Demers (Manchester, N.H.), junior Julia Giampietro (Sandwich, Mass.) and Dull converted attempts for the Penmen.

NOTES

  • Bentley's Layla Conway opened the scoring at 25:09, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead they carried into halftime.
  • Dull's goal was the eighth of her career. She scored seven goals and added eight assists as a freshman last season.
  • Crocombe recorded her first point of the season with the assist.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Agustina Miranda Waigand (Miami, Fla.) was stellar, making five saves over 80 minutes.
  • Sophomore Ella Tucker (Gloucester, Mass.) added a defensive save in the third quarter.
  • Bentley finished with a 16-4 advantage in shots, a 7-1 edge in shots on goal and an 11-2 margin in penalty corners.
  • It was SNHU's first shootout since a victory over the University of New Haven on Oct. 22, 2022.
  • The Penmen snapped a two-game losing streak against the Falcons.
  • Bentley leads the all-time series, 10-9.
  • Sunday's contest was a non-conference game.
  • The victory was the 100th of Munson's career as head coach of the Penmen.
