SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Senior
Sara Tucker (Red Hook, NY) poured in a career-high
26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds but the Southern New Hampshire
University women's basketball team was edged 60-58 by Le Moyne
College in overtime Sunday afternoon. The Dolphins are 3-0
and 2-0 in Northeast-10 play, while the Penmen are 0-3 overall and
0-2 in the league.
Tucker finished 11-16 from the
floor. Ashara Carrington (Marblehead, MA)
finished with eight points for the Penmen, while Stephanie
Houghton (Manchester, NH) handed out five assists.
Kim Wagoner led Le Moyne with 20 points.
Le Moyne led 37-31 with just over
12 minutes to play when SNHU would go on a 13-2 run capped by a
basket by Megan Shay (Candor, NY) at the 7:12 mark
to give the Penmen a 44-39 lead. The guests would maintain
the lead until just over a minute to play when Vaness Holden
drained a three to tie the game at 50-50. A layup by
Alyssa Whitney (Somerville, MA) gave the Penmen a
52-50 lead with 40 seconds to play, but the Dolphins would tie the
game with nine seconds to go on a Holden field goal.
Southern New Hampshire led 56-53 a
minute into the extra session and led 58-56 on a Carrington basket
at the 3:02 mark. The Dolphins would score the game's final
four points, including the game-winning basket by Danielle Felice
with 1:32 left. The Penmen would get the last look of the
game but a final shot attempt was blocked.
The Penmen led much of the first
half and held a 16-10 lead with 5:49 before intermission on a
Tucker basket. SNHU took a 23-17 lead into the locker room.
Southern New Hampshire owned a
commanding 50-32 rebounding advantage, including a 14-7 edge on the
offensive glass.
SNHU returns to action Wednesday
when it hosts The College of Saint Rose in a 5:30 contest at the
SNHU Fieldhouse.
