MANCHESTER, N.H. - A goal by Kerri Domohowski with just
under 11 minutes to play in the first half lifted No. 24 Merrimack
College to a 1-0 Northeast-10 women's soccer victory over Southern
New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon at Larkin Field.
For the Warriors, it marked their sixth straight win as they
improved to 10-2-2 overall and 8-2-1 in NE-10 play, while the
Penmen are now 6-4-3 and 5-4-2 in the league.
Domohowski's goal would come at the
34:03 mark of the game. She dribbled from the right post into
the area in front of SNHU keeper Stef Young
(Natick, MA). Young attempted to play the ball but Domohowski
got past her and fired into the open net for the game's lone goal.
Southern New Hampshire had two
prime chances to tie the game in the second half. Just over
11 minutes into the second half the Penmen were awarded a penalty
kick when Nicole Ebner (Rochester, NY) was brought
down in the penalty area. Alyssa Thayer's
(Hooksett, NH) attempt was stopped by Merrimack keeper Shannon
Rowan. At the midway point of the second half, Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, RI) would launch a free kick from the
top of the box that had a chance but was knocked away by Rowan at
the last moment.
Rowan made five saves for Merrimack
to earn the shutout. Young turned aside three shots for the
Penmen. The Warriors held an 11-8 shot advantage on the
afternoon.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Tuesday night when it hosts Saint Anselm College in a
7:00 game at Larkin Field.
