BOX SCORE
MANCHESTER, N.H. - A goal by sophomore Danielle
Courtemanche (Glastonbury, CT) with 9:16 remaining lifted
the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team to
Tuesday night's 2-1 Northeast-10 Conference victory over Saint
Anselm College at SNHU's Larkin Field. The Penmen snapped a
five-game winless streak with the win as they improved to 7-4-3 and
6-4-2 in NE-10 play. The Hawks saw a three-game win streak
halted as they now sit at 6-8-2 and 5-5-2 in the league.
Courtemanche broke a 1-1 stalemate
in the game's 81st minute when she lifted a shot from 25
yards out that found the upper left corner of the Hawk goal past
the dive of Saint Anselm keeper Jacqueline Cooney. The guests
had tied the game just 1:37 earlier when Kathleen Kennerly curled a
free kick from near the sideline into the top left corner of the
goal.
After a scoreless first half, the
Penmen got on the board 11:55 into the second half when
Alyssa Thayer (Hooksett, NH) scored on a feed from
Sophia Saint Paul (Brockton, MA). It marked
Thayer's fourth goal of the season.
Stef Young
(Natick, MA) made three saves in goal for the Penmen to earn the
victory. Cooney turned aside five shots for Saint Anselm,
which was outshot 14-10 on the evening by its hosts.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday when it travels to Pace University for a 3:30
contest.
