WORCESTER, Mass. - Kristina Gillen scored
twice in the second half to lead Assumption College to a 3-2
come-from-behind victory over No. 18 Southern New Hampshire
University in Northeast-10 women's soccer Tuesday night. The
Greyhounds improved to 6-5-1 and 3-4-1 in league play, while the
Penmen saw a six-game unbeaten streak snapped and are now 6-2-2 and
5-2-1 in the league.
SNHU held a 2-1 lead at halftime
and carried that lead into the 64th minute when Gillen
tied the game after she collected a feed off the head of Kelley
Dewalt and put it inside the left post. Gillen would then
score the gamewinner with 3:26 left in regulation when she lifted a
shot over diving SNHU keeper Stef Young (Natick,
MA).
Southern New Hampshire got on the
board first, taking a 1-0 lead just over 18 minutes into the game
when Sophia Saint Paul (Brockton, MA) scored her
seventh goal of the season when she went one-on-one with Greyhound
keeper Lauren Keating and put a shot inside the left post.
Ariel Teixeira (Warren, RI) assisted on the goal.
Assumption would tie the game at
the 37:39 mark when Dewalt scored her fifth goal of the season, but
the Penmen would reclaim the lead 1:15 later.
Kristina Cardoso (Stoughton, MA) took a feed from
Emily Donahue (Bristol, RI) and beat Keating with
a shot to the right post.
Keating turned aside five shots for
Assumption as her team was outshot by the Penmen 12-10. Young
made a pair of saves for the Penmen.
Southern New Hampshire returns to
action on Saturday when it travels to Le Moyne College for a noon
contest.
