SPRINGFIELD, Mass.
- Visiting Southern New Hampshire University posted a 9-0 sweep of
American International College in Northeast-10 women's tennis on
Sunday afternoon. The Penmen improve to 5-4 overall and in
NE-10 play, while the Yellow Jackets are now 2-8 overall and in the
league.
Leading the way for Southern New
Hampshire was Catalina Echeverry (Cali, Colombia)
with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Lauren
Nigrelli (Westerly, RI), Amanda Nason
(Center Sandwich, NH), Meghan Welch (Mont Vernon,
NH), Alison Waring (Westboro, MA) and
Courteney Blais (Paxton, MA) were all singles
winners for the Penmen. For freshman Blais, it marked a
victory in her collegiate debut.
Echeverry and Nigrelli teamed up
for a win at No. 1 singles, while Juliet
Verhofstad (Plymouth, NH) and Kristen
Franco (Bedford, NH) were victorious at second
singles. Nason and Melissa Ramos (Stoughton,
MA) upped their doubles record to 8-0 this season with a 8-0 win in
the No. 3 slot.
