Women's Soccer Knocks Off No. 6 C.W. Post in Double Overtime

BOX SCORE

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - A goal by freshman Ariel Teixeira (Warren, RI) with 5:43 left in the second overtime session lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1 win over No. 6 C.W. Post in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.  The Penmen improved to 3-1-1 overall, while the Pioneers, ranked sixth in the latest adidas/NSCAA Division II national poll, suffered their first loss of the season and are now 6-1 overall.

Just past the 104-minute mark, Teixeira, standing 10 yards out, tipped a pass from Kristina Cardoso (Stoughton, MA) inside the far post and past C.W. Post keeper Deanna Esposito for the game-winner.  It marked Teixeira's second goal on the season.

Southern New Hampshire got on the board first at the 13:34 mark.  Alyssa Thayer (Hooksett, NH) took a pass from Nicole Ebner (Rochester, NY) and fired it into the lower left corner to give the Penmen a 1-0 lead.  The Pioneers would tie the game just under five minutes later when Ivana Babic scored her sixth goal of the season, sending a ball off the left post and across the goal line.

Stef Young (Natick, MA) turned aside four shots for Southern New Hampshire, which outshot C.W. Post 16-12.  Esposito made three saves for the hosts.

SNHU returns to action on Tuesday night when it hosts Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 game that is slated for a 7:00 start at Larkin Field.
