BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - A goal by freshman Ariel
Teixeira (Warren, RI) with 5:43 left in the second
overtime session lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-1
win over No. 6 C.W. Post in women's soccer action Saturday
afternoon. The Penmen improved to 3-1-1 overall, while the
Pioneers, ranked sixth in the latest adidas/NSCAA Division II
national poll, suffered their first loss of the season and are now
6-1 overall.
Just past the 104-minute mark,
Teixeira, standing 10 yards out, tipped a pass from
Kristina Cardoso (Stoughton, MA) inside the far
post and past C.W. Post keeper Deanna Esposito for the
game-winner. It marked Teixeira's second goal on the season.
Southern New Hampshire got on the
board first at the 13:34 mark. Alyssa
Thayer (Hooksett, NH) took a pass
from Nicole Ebner (Rochester, NY) and
fired it into the lower left corner to give the Penmen a 1-0
lead. The Pioneers would tie the game just under five minutes
later when Ivana Babic scored her sixth goal of the season, sending
a ball off the left post and across the goal line.
Stef Young
(Natick, MA) turned aside four shots for Southern New Hampshire,
which outshot C.W. Post 16-12. Esposito made three saves for
the hosts.
SNHU returns to action on Tuesday
night when it hosts Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 game that
is slated for a 7:00 start at Larkin Field.
